Description

“Collection by Vermant” is delighted to be able to offer you this very unique Volvo 240 Turbo Group A replica Race car. This 240 is equipped with an original B21 engine that has been tweaked to develop a massive 335 hp. This has been mated to a manual, straight cut, gearbox that delivers the power to the back wheels. This 240 has been freshly built to the exact specification of the period Group A race cars. This specific 240 was only tested after completion and has yet to see any real action on track. A one of a kind opportunity to buy a brand new and track ready classic Volvo Race car.

This Volvo 240 has been built in collaboration between former (professional) racing car driver Per Gunnar Andersson and the renowned Belgian Racing car builder, GRC motorsport. During the built/ restoration no expense was spared to bring the car into correct specification and most importantly, make it reliable. In total, more than a 150. 000€ was spent on the car to get it into its current condition. Not only the mechanical parts, where completely overhauled and renewed but also the bodywork. It was professionally restored, strengthened and painted both inside and out. During the restoration, all the sound deadening material was removed to save weight and also enhance the overall racing experience. This brings the car to a weight of around 1. 000kg’s. To add to the safety of the car, a complete roll cage was welded in. This was done before the painting to give it the same colour as the rest of the interior. The roll cage does not only contribute to the safety of the car, but also stiffens the complete chassis.

When looking at the exterior of this car, we can find a beautifully finished white paintjob. This colour was applied on every single panel of the car and the execution of the paintjob was done to a very high standard. The engine compartment, luggage area, underside and interior are all finished in the exterior colour and give the car a very clean and sterile presence. To prepare the car further for the track, an air jack system was fitted. This allows for a quick lifting of the car and eases the process of changing the tyres. The wheels of the tyres are the period correct BBS centerlock rims. These are the only ones that are FIA approved for this car. When continuing on the side, we can also find the side mounted exhaust pipe. This is a free flowing system without any mufflers present. This lets the car really come to life, once started. When the car is used hard on track, this side exhaust will even shoot flames on the overrun. When we look at the back of this 240, we can see that the boot lid has been upgraded. It has been fitted with the correct rear spoiler and has 2 cutouts for the fuel nozzle, one on each side of the car. These allow for quick refuelling during a race. Something not very visual for most, but important on the race track are the front and rear bumpers. These have been shortened and positioned more closely to the bodywork. The front bumper was even lowered to generate a more aerodynamically efficient surface on the front of the car. Last but not least, a battery disconnect and fire extinguisher lever were fitted on the front drivers side of the car. This allows for emergency workers to activate these from the exterior of the car in case of an accident.

When going over to the interior of the car, the first thing that is apparent is the lack of upholstery and interior comfort. It has been completely stripped and all of the unnecessary items have been removed. On the drivers side, we can find a full Sabelt racing kit. This comprises of the bucket seat, removable steering wheel and the racing harness. All of which, have been FIA approved for racing. The dashboard of the car is still original, but has been flocked to prevent any reflection of the sun on the dashboard. Right in front of the driver, we can see the speedometer and the boost pressure gauge. On the right side, all of the auxiliary gauges have been placed so they are still very visible for the driver. Looking at the center console, we can find all of the buttons to control the car. These have all been custom made for this series of cars. To save some weight on the car, the old doorpanels were removed and replaced with custom Carbon fibre examples that have been painted black. Also in the interior, we can find the fire extinguisher. This can be activated by the touch of a switch to go off in the engine compartment in a matter of seconds.

On the mechanical side, we can find only high end components and materials. For the suspension, the world renowned manufacturer Öhlins was chosen. They deliver shock absorbers for some of the most renowned brands, both on road and track. They currently provide Ferrari F1 with their suspension. To fit the Centrelock wheels, a custom wheel hub was made. These also incorporate the Brembo brake calipers and ventilated discs.

The sister car for this 240 is currently being driven by Marc Duez in the Belcar Championship. It even scored a second place in the 2021 Spa Francorchamps race. In short, this 240 is the ultimate car to use on trackdays or even more competitively in classic racing series. A unique opportunity to acquire an exact copy of the winning Group A race cars for a fraction of the build cost and completely race ready.

Since this car was completely rebuilt from the ground up using many new parts, This car falls under VAT regulation and is subsequently VAT deductible. FIA Passport is pending.
