EXTERIOR
The Series I E-Type is surely Jaguar’s finest work of art and, in the words of Enzo Ferrari, the most beautiful car ever made. The bodywork on this example presents in truly sensational condition with superb panel gaps and a deep lustful shine to the metallic green paintwork – our studio photographs really don’t do it justice! All the chrome is perfect and the fit of the rubber seals and trims is excellent. Looking on the underside the condition is just as good as the top with immaculate green paintwork and not an ounce of surface corrosion to any of the ancillary parts.
INTERIOR
The pale cream leather interior makes for the perfect combination with the green paint, a true British gentleman’s cruiser. The seats remain in fabulous order, the leather is still soft to the touch with just the right level of patina. The centre console, door cards and other vinyl trims are all in very nice shape. The beautiful dashboard with toggle switches is in first-rate condition and everything works exactly as it should. The carpets are also well presented and lifting them reveals more immaculate green paintwork. The soft top has recently been replaced and so is in immaculate condition and fits extremely well. Likewise the boot area is pristine with no damage to the vinyl floor covering or sides trims.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
More beauty is revealed when lifting the long bonnet to see an immaculately presented Jaguar straight-six. Everything under the bonnet is as you would wish for with polished aluminium, immaculately presented green chassis rails and fantastic attention to detail. She starts on the button and on test drove beautifully with no shakes or rattles, pulling strongly through all gears.
WHEELS, TYRES AND BRAKES
The chrome wire wheels remain in pristine condition with no discolouration to the chrome or corrosion to the spokes. They are all shod in a recently replaced set of Dunlop SP Sport tyres, and all the braking components are immaculate and working exactly as they should.
HISTORY FILE
This stunning UK-supplied Series I Roadster was first registered in July 1967; the supplying dealer was Henlys of London. The car is accompanied by a thick stack of documentation and invoices, a Jaguar Heritage certificate confirming the original build specification, and the V5C showing just 8 former keepers. This is without doubt the finest 4. 2 drop-top we have seen here at 4 Star, a truly stunning example that would sit perfectly in any collection.
