Description
1924 Bentley 3-4 1/ 2 litre Lemans tourer.
Chassis number: 487
Registration Number: XR3400
Under long term ownership for the past decade, this car was purchased from the late Stanley Mann who eloquently summed the car up in his usual ubiquitous style: "This Bentley is the most desirable spec for the old Bentley boys among us (my self included)... The recipe was; find a 3 litre — preferably with short chassis, pour in a heap of real 4½ litre engine and then fit Le Mans style coachwork with Le Mans spec and Le Mans tank and then you have served up the best vintage Bentley cocktail ever... Mind you, as this case, fortunes have been spent recently and it all shows and works well."
Little used in the past 5 years due to the twin issues of declining health & too many cars belonging to the current elderly owner, the car now comes to us for sale. Due to the lay up we immediately took the car to Graham Moss at noted speciailst RC Moss whom we regard as being simply the best in the world for anything W. O. Bentley related. Moss performed a full recommissioning service & put some miles on the car to ensure it was in tip top order.
After a long test drive Mr Moss sums up the car as being in perfect running condition & one of the best he has driven which is high praise indeed.
The car has had the full Lemans treatment with a very pretty body well proportioned to the short chassis. The car as a whole is in simply immaculate like new condition. The body is of ash framing covered in green rexine fabric. To the interior is matching green leather & carpets. The dash has a full set of the requisite Lemans instrumentation. Braking is excellent from the bellows type servo & indeed needs to be as this is a very very fast example running at 80 or so effortlessly in modern traffic with plenty more to come. Overdrive is fitted making it very very long legged indeed.
The car sits on freshly powder coated wire wheels. Driving lamps are fitted up front to augment the mesh protected headlamps. Under the bonet the story continues with twin sloper carbs feeding the powerful 4. 5 litre engine. A 4. 5 litre radiator is also present along with the de-rigeur high capacity fuel tank. I stopped pulling the trigger at 140 litres when filling it up.
In stock now it is ready for immediate viewings. This is a perfect car for rallies such as the flying scotsman of a high speed dash down to the Lemans Classics etc. It is fully sorted, like new & ready to go.
