Description
1963 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 3 Convertible
Chassis Number: SEV281
Registration number: TOF500 (Available separately.)
According to its accompanying RREC copy build records, chassis SEV281 was supplied new by Loxhams Garages Ltd of Preston to W. E. Holmes Esq of nearby Fulwood. Beginning life as a Standard Steel Saloon, a fax on file from classic car dealer / restorer Stephen Pilkington states that it was converted into a Drophead Coupe by former H. J. Mulliner craftsman John McKenzie. Faithful to the famous coachbuilder's original design, work included the fitment of new wings and sills. Issued with an MOT certificate at an unwarranted (but not inconceivable) 60, 681 miles on October 20th 1989, the four-seater was scarcely used by its former keeper who nonetheless dry stored it for over twenty-three years. Mileage is currently showing just 66, 762 miles.
Extensively restored since entering the current ownership, chassis SEV281 has benefited from a six-month long bare metal respray, new Tan leather upholstery, repolished wood veneers and refinished brightwork. Mechanically this car is in utterly superb order & has been looked after without regard to cost to put in into simply as good a condition as possible. Equipped with 4 electric windows and a power hood, the Drophead Coupe also boasts a Beige hood bag, full tool kit and rear picnic tables.
Recent works include fitting working Quarterlights to replace the original fixed units, refurbishment of all 4 electric window mechanisms, a full engine rebuild including new liners & pistons etc, Gear box refurbished by specialist Martin Lowe, new shock absorbers all round, new under trays, new spring gaiters, brakes relined, new master cylinders, new water pump, new anti-roll bar bushes, new radiator core, lots of new chrome & modern internals installed in the radio along with much more.
The exterior paint in immaculate condition is blue along with the blue convertible mohair top. To the interior the Tan leather is done in very high quality hides with deep pile maroon lambswool rugs under foot. The burr walnut in highly figured & in beautiful condition extending to the occasional picnic tables in the seat backs.
This car drives absolutely like new & is shake & rattle free. The hood glides up & down at the touch of a button & is snug & draft free when raised. We have handled a few of these over the years but never a better one then this example.
