EXTERIOR
The sublime Bright Red paint retains a lustrous finish and looks marvelous along those smooth Z3 lines. The gleaming bodywork presents in near-flawless condition with no signs of any corrosion or scratches, and along both sides the car is arrow-straight. The electric folding soft-top also looks very fresh and operates smoothly at the touch of a button; once down it can be neatly stowed neatly beneath the removable tonneau cover (not photographed), which is a rare item in itself. All the lights are lovely and clear and elsewhere there’s no damage to any of the trims or seals. A pin-sharp example overall.
INTERIOR
The contrasting black leather has stood the test of time well, presenting very nicely with only minimal wear to report. The upholstery remains feeling soft to the touch having never been left to harden or crack in the sun. The bolsters are in remarkably good order and are free from any scuffs or sagging, and pleasingly the leather has never been re-connolised. The dash and centre console are in equally fine condition, with the switchgear and gear knob showing few signs of use. Original velour overmats protect the footwell carpets, and at the rear of the car the boot area is very clean and tidy.
ENGINE
The Z3 is equipped with the same 2. 8-litre straight-six as used in the E36 328i. Producing a healthy 189hp the car reaches sixty in just 6. 5 seconds. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a silken five-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential. The engine bay is very tidy indeed and maintains a fresh appearance with no signs of any damage or previous poor repair. Having been well maintained from new the car remains in fine mechanical fettle. Recent works within the last few thousand miles include a new crankshaft sensor, water pump, and clutch. The last service was a full Inspection II carried out at BMW at 44, 374 miles.
WHEELS
The 16-inch five-spoke wheels are in excellent condition having previously been refurbished to a very high standard. They are shod in a matching set of premium Continental tyres with plenty of tread left at each corner. The brakes have also been checked and remain in fine operational condition, pulling the car to a halt quickly and in straight line.
HISTORY FILE
This low mileage 2. 8 Z3 Roadster was first registered in October 1997. It was supplied new by First Front Wimbledon and has now driven just 45k miles in the hands of only 5 registered keepers. The accompanying maintenance booklet is stamped 11 times, with 10 BMW main dealer entries and 1 German car specialist stamp. The last service was the big Inspection II carried out at Specialist Cars Tring BMW in 2019 at 44, 374 miles.
