Original unrestored Two Strokes 1965 Peel Trident For Sale

Description

Reluctantly for sale is my genuine Peel Trident. This car came from the famous "Two Strokes" of Stanmore microcar dealer (famous at least to microcar cognoscenti!) in June 1965.

So very rarely do these sensational iconic machines become available for purchase.

This is a matching number original unrestored (will clearly need recommissioning) Trident assembled at Cyril Cannell's Peel Engineering Viking Works in Peel Town on the Isle of Man. Firstly, this car has its all important original E1** chassis plate. This Trident still wears its "Two Strokes" original alloy number plates on its London Middlesex issued 1965 "C" registration. As you can see, the original Two Strokes dealer sticker is still on the dashboard in sound condition. The car has its original DKW 49cc 4. 2hp 3 spd power unit together with the correct Bing 1/ 17/ 44 carb. The 2 stroke engine has its correct ally serial tag showing 8041604***. This signifies the unique Peel series of motors that went in both the P50 and Trident supplied specifically by the German manufacturer Zweirad Union.

Car has its original metalwork/ suspension/ steering/ wheels/ hubs/ controls, original main lower body moulding and upper lifting canopy (obviously) with grey original interior fleck paint, correct Wipac lights front/ back, LEP 6v wiper motor, Lucas 8H 6v horn, Wilmot Breeden lock assembly, Veedol petrol cap, original loom, correct SIEM dash switch + unique plinth, original Peel badge on dash, etc etc. What is interesting is this Trident is a "learner car" with a shopping basket as opposed to a passenger seat pad. This was so a 16 year old could drive it back in 1965. Another unique aspect of this car is that the hand fabricated steelwork on a Trident should be finished in "filing cabinet" grey. On this car, the underside metal work is black (like a P50). All very strange but these were hand built cars.

The car has always been dry stored thus never sat outside exposed to the elements for decades rotting away the steelwork etc... Many uninformed enthusiasts have unfortunately been caught out over the years by the nefarious skulduggery that these machines attract. As ever, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The last pic is a batch of Tridents being loaded up on the Isle of Man on their way to the mainland in 1965. It is possible that one of them is this car. But we will never know!

This is a "no stories" correct unrestored un-messed Peel throughout with a current V5C in my name.

FYI - there is additional valuable material and select collectible items available with the machine by separate negotiation - including New Old Stock Peel parts - NOS Avon Tyres, NOS WIPAC lights, NOS 8H horn, NOS hubcaps/ spinners, NOS WB Boot Lock, Original 1965 Trident Brochure, period Scooter magazine with Trident road test, Peel Engineering commemorative stamps etc etc. (these not for sale on an individual basis unless the buyer choses to not include them in the sale).

The web domain http:// www. PEELTRIDENT . COM is also available again by separate negotiation.

A genuine unrestored P50 achieved £111k via Car&Classic’s auction facility Feb2022.

A Trident is arguably a more iconic and jaw dropping pleasing on the eye oddity with its space age 60’s styling. A modern day Gauguin/ Mondrian/ Bacon/ Rothko on 3 wheels!

Offers around £95K for this cast iron blue chip investment.

Car can be viewed in London. Export can be arranged.
