Description
Meet ‘Blu’ our absolutely stunning 1985 Mercedes Benz 380 SL in Diamond Blue with blue leather and a recently fitted new blue mohair roof and original colour coded hard top.
Having covered just 122, 000 miles throughout his 36 years, Blu has averaged just over 3000 per year! Boasting a superb history folder detailing many thousands spent on servicing and various maintenance which has led to it being in the fantastic order it currently enjoys. For peace of mind, a new MOT will be carried out for the new owner.
This is actually my personal car, I purchased this back in March 2021 and have absolutely loved every moment of it. The only reason this is up for sale is that I have set my sights on a dream car which I will pursue if Blu manages to find a nice new home. Blu has become very well known locally this summer after attending many car shows and receiving attention and praise everywhere he goes, most famously at Broadway Car Show and indeed on our Instagram page at The Man Cave Broadway.
So, let me give you a little info on Blu and his history.
During its life this 1985 SL was owned by a company director for a care home who was registered disabled, the MV certificate comes with the history file. I believe the car was kept by its first owner for nine years, after which it went to a new custodian. The paperwork really begins from this period, when the car had covered around 77, 500 miles.
It was used quite a bit over the next decade or so, with the mileage reaching 118, 589 by 2006. But then, the SL went into storage until 2016, with only the briefest of spells out in public to pick up an MoT in 2013. It returned to the roads properly in 2016, but has been used sparingly since then; a recent previous owner recommissioned it and the current mileage is approx 122, 000. The last owner, David had various work carried out: “New brake calipers were fitted to the rear last summer, along with one at the front during the late summer,”. “There were also new copper brake lines to the rear and the front, new brake pads, and a washer bottle. An exhaust rear box and centre pipe has been fitted in the last 18 months. The leather recently had some Connolising to soften the front seats, and the rear parcel shelf has been recovered.” One of the biggest jobs in the past few months has been a brand new hood, which was fitted in December 2020. David also believes that the Mercedes-Benz received even more cosmetic attention some while back. I believe the car was professionally repainted within the last few years, and I think the paintwork shows this, with only the most minor of imperfections, this really is a lovely example.
Colour-coded wheel trims are fitted to this model, which in my opinion makes it a real stand out car, extremely elegant. Coupled with its original colour coded hard top, Blu looks just as incredible with the hard top on as he does with the roof down!
Viewing and test drive is imperative to appreciate this, one of the most desirable modern classics on the market at the moment. But please do bear in mind it is 36 years old (not long until FREE ROAD TAX!) and you will find the odd imperfection here and there.
Don’t hesitate to contact with any sensible questions, and if you’d like any more info or photos I have hundreds!
Many thanks for looking and reading, I look forward to hearing from you.
