Description
This Jaguar XK140 was used by Jaguar as a show car during 1955. Being chassis number S807040 it was the 40th right-hand drive XK140 DHC to be built. It is an original UK, right-hand drive, special equipment (SE) car. This is a very early XK140 which would have been used by Jaguar to show off all the extras available on the SE specification cars including spot/ fog lamps, wire wheels and overdrive gearbox. The heritage certificate from the Jaguar Heritage Trust even shows the car as "Jaguar Cars Ltd - Show". After its life as a show car this XK140 went to the Appleyard car dealership in Leeds (Ian Appleyards family business) and then onto Hoffmanns in Halifax where it was finally registered as FJX 450.
The car was originally finished in Battleship Grey with a Red interior and a rather rare Gunmetal soft top. It must have been a very striking colour scheme. Being an SE specification car it would have had all the bells and whistles straight out of the factory including wire wheels, spot/ fog lamps and overdrive gearbox. Original engine and gearbox have been separated from the car at some point in its life however a correct XK140 engine will be built for the car the the buyers specification (standard or fast road).
The car is currently undergoing a full nut and bolt restoration here at Twyford Moors and can be finished to the buyers specification. At this point the chassis has been dipped, painted and is built up with all its pipework and suspension on. The bodywork is complete and we are in the process of fitting the hood frame, windows and other exterior parts to the shell. The car will soon be ready to be painted the buyers chosen colour. The rest of the restoration will be carried out in line with the buyers wishes and can include our upgrade options to make the car more drivable or can be restored to original specification.
If you have ever wanted to own an XK built to your exact specification here is a rare opportunity to get just that and avoid 12 months worth of work to get to this point in a restoration. Additionally, this XK140 offers an opportunity to own a rare part of Jaguar history.
