Description

It hurts to write this ad. Time has come to part with a beloved part of me, my Porsche Boxster. Off the bat this will not be for some people. It is a 2. 5 litre, NOT the S. It was registered on 31st December 1998.

Why did I choose the non S variant? I find it to be purer in its handling and eagerness. The 2. 7 S variant has more power, but this removes something from the gentleness of the car's dynamics.

I love this car. The car that saved Porsche? Maybe. The car that turned Porsche's fortunes on its head, and made it the unquenchable power house it is today? Maybe. A throwback to the 550 Spyder? Definitely.

This car had been lovingly looked after all its life. It has never wanted for anything and always been treated well. The mileage is testament to how little it has been used: 55, 600. The engine and the gearbox are the gems of this car. The engine starts up without a flutter and the gearbox click clacks mechanically as only Porsche know how. They are absolutely rock solid, and really feel like they have just been run in.

The car was put into storage in 2009. Over the recent lockdown it was brought back out again. The brake discs were changed, and the brake lines were renewed. It flew through its MOT, and this expires on the 25th January 2022.

Every time I see a classic Boxster on the road, my heart flutters and I do not want to part with this car. It is Porsche at its purest. It was Gordon Murray, the mighty designer of the Mclaren F1, who put it best of all when asked about the (at that time) new 986 Boxster and 996 911. He said 'the 911 would be the best car in the world, if it wasn't for the Boxster'. Says it all really.

What makes it so special? Well if you are looking for this car, then chances are you already know. It's mainly the handling, and for me, the best roadster ever made. It has an old school Porsche mechanical-ness to it that you work with to enjoy the car. It is not a car that does anything for you. You drive this car; not algorithms and computers. It's a olde world joy.

This car needs one thing, and that is the rear window. This has split recently due to cold weather and also its age. It happens to them all. I have taken quotes on this, as I did not want to part with the car. Quotes range between £199-£350. They simply remove the old screen and replace. This replacement can be plastic or glass (which was what was used in the 987).

I have chosen to convert the roof to a manual. This saves any hassle with motors and electronics. It is simple to do and I prefer the car this way. It takes about 5-6 seconds to lower the roof, and maybe 10 seconds to close it. It's smooth and effortless. There are several videos on YouTube illustrating this, and how quick it is. I have not checked the electric mechanism since getting the car back on the road. If there is a problem with this it is about £300-600 pounds to rectify depending on the location of the faulty relay.

The car is the only colour to have; silver, and it has a nephrite FULL leather interior, and nephrite carpets. It has a CD multichanger in the front boot, which I have left for heritage. Depending on who buys the car I may leave this in. If you're young and only know what an iPod is I will remove it; if you are from a more golden era like myself ;) I will leave it in to be enjoyed or just left in place as a heritage piece.

So the main points again:

1. Wonderful Boxster

2. Right colour. Lovely paintwork. Apart from very minimal crease to drivers seat, interior is flawless.

3. Super low mileage.

4. Passed MOT with no issues and has MOT until Jan 25th 2022.

5. Back window DOES need replacing. Am happy to do this, but time and travel expenses to get this done will be added to the cost. I will only do this when there is a non refundable deposit on the car.

I feel I have covered as much as I can, and still do not want to part with the car. It has been priced according to its status as a classic, and one with super low mileage and long MOT.

I want it to go to a good home.
