Description
The TR6 was the last of a long line of British thoroughbreds descending from Harry Webster’s and Walter Belgrove’s 1952 ‘Triumph Sports Car’. In 1967 coachbuilder Karmann removed Michelotti's aging romanticism and redesigned the TR body with clean striking lines that emanate speed, fury and grace. The power was delivered by a performance oriented version of the 2. 5 lt 6 cylinder unit with re-engineered block, crankshaft and camshaft. The European version was further equipped with a Lucas fuel injection system providing for 150 bhp and 164 lb ft.
The TR6 featured here was produced in August of 1971 for the UK market which comprised only 10% of total production. It featured the desirable High Compression engine with dome pistons and redesigned for model year 1971 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. After numerous years in London, in 2003 it was acquired by a TR collector in Northampton who decided to conduct a full respray in Pimento Red and fit a sports rear silencer from T. R. Improvements. After only 1450 miles in 8 years, it became part of a private collection in Athens, Greece where it received a thorough preservation treatment with Moss supplied parts. Soon after it was authenticated by Greece’s Federation Internationale de Vehicules Anciens and awarded 2nd place in FIVA’s Concours d’ Elegance.
Being stored over a decade in a climate controlled garage, the body retains an absolute rust-free and pristine cosmetic condition. Since 2020 the car further benefitted from an extensive series of repairs using Moss UK supplied parts only including:
- engine overhaul with intake butterflies adjusted, new injectors, metering unit, pressure regulator, new distributor, new fuel and water pumps
- gearbox repaired with new clutch and master cylinder
- prop shaft repaired and rear diff maintained
- rack and pinion steering repaired with new bushing
- suspension repaired
- brake calipers overhauled with new dics and pads
- heater repaired
- new tyres fitted
It currently presents in an exceptional cosmetic and mechanical condition throughout offering a wide range of uses from Concours events to regularity rallying to daily drives.
