1965 MGB Roadster For Sale
MGB Roadster
Registration: ECJ 954C
Year: 1965
Mileage: 80427
Owners: 3 from new
History:
The first lady owner MS Hilary Homes bought the car new in 1965 and it wasn’t until 2015 that the car was sold and restored by the second owner Mr Ian Hunter. It’s believed that the car was left in dry storage for a number of years before being unearthed.
The car was bought in February 2015 by a Mr Ian Hunter who carried out the restoration of the car and has very much kept the original feel and as many original parts as possible
Works carried out under Mr Hunter:
Full bodywork and structural restoration along with respray – lower halves of wings replaced, along with sills. Floor edges replaced but the floors do seem to be the originals
Full engine rebuild –New piston rings, bottom end rebuild with new bearings, timing chain, oil pump, oil seal and head decoke.
New clutch, with rebuilt Master and new slave cylinder
All new brake hydraulics
Professionally rebuilt dynamo and starter motor (both appear to be the originals)
LCB manifold and stainless steel silencer boxes
Full carburettor rebuild with new jets, fuel pipes needles etc.
New fuel tank and fuel pump
New steering rack

Body:
As you can see in the pictures the car is nice and straight. The door is shut with a lovely clunk and the gaps are good. The aluminium bonnet is still fitted. The seams are all totally rut free and again, I don’t think the car has ever had full wing sections at the back. The car was repainted about 2 years ago and whilst it’s a good job, with a nice finish and shine, it’s not a concourse job. Door and wing bottoms are all solid with no evidence of filler etc. Wing – top seems are nice and solid.
Underside:
Very clean and tidy - it’s nice to see such an original car, without lots of patchwork quilt welding. The underside was all bare metal before being painted so it’s absolutely clear that there is nothing to hide. Inner wings, inner wing trumpets are all rock solid as are the sills, inner sills and floors. Battery boxes are like new, but are the originals
Interior:
Original, right down to the carpets. Door cards, seats, steering wheel, gauges (new Oil Pressure gauge) and dash are all original and in very good order.
Mechanically:
Car runs really very well. The original, matching numbers 18GB engine fires up from cold with ease and isn’t tappety like most B-series engines are. The engine Pullsl strongly and runs at the correct temperature. Overdrive is fitted, and is working. The gearbox is nice and quiet and doesn’t jump out of gear, or worn synchromesh.
