With crisp styling that can be attributed to Giorgetto Giugiaro, attention-grabbing gullwing doors, the car is an enduring icon, which has secured its place in history. Although manufactured only between 1981-1982, in October 1976, the first prototype DeLorean DMC-12 was completed by William T. Collins, formerly chief engineer at Pontiac. Initially, the car was intended to have a centrally-mounted Wankel Rotary engine, but eventually, the engine selection was reconsidered when Comotor production ended and the choice was revised to the PRC fuel-injected V6. The two-seater coupe includes a rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, a model aimed at the American market. The car was named the DMC-12 because of its intended price of US$12, 000. Nevertheless, at the outset, there were extensive waiting lists of clients willing to buy the DeLorean above the list price.

The DeLorean DMC-12 has an excellent low slung driving position, including fully adjustable seats and a high transmission tunnel that ensures an absolutely exciting sense of occasion, yet suiting drivers of all dimensions. The DMC-12 experience is a unique and swift one with high torque levels and wide tyres. Constructed with a steel backbone chassis and fibreglass underbody which includes stainless steel panels that were subsequently hung to the car. This gave the DMC-12 its 'iconic' distinctive appearance with disc brakes larger on the rear axle than in the front. Since the DMC-12 features an all-independent suspension, it utilises unequal length wishbones at the front and trailing arms at the rear. Fitted with a 2849 cc V-6, the engine, a variant of the PRV ‘Douvrin’, features a single overhead cam and Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection. Cars for the American market were also fitted with catalytic converters. The DMC-12 was only available with two factory options; a no-cost manual transmission or automatic transmission and the choice of a grey or black interior. Several dealer options were available, including a car cover, floor mats, black textured accent stripes; grey scotch-cal accent stripes, a luggage rack and a ski-rack adapter truly make this an exquisite car ready to be enjoyed by it's next owner. Even the standard feature list includes superb stainless-steel body panels, gull-wing doors with cryogenically treated torsion bars, and a telescopic steering wheel.

This incredible time warp car prior to coming to the UK in 2014 has spent much of its existence in the hot, dry Texas climate, the leather interior had begun showing its age, as the stitching is starting to come loose. A full, new upholstery kit was ordered from the DeLorean Motor Company and recently installed to best reflect the true quality of this highly original example, and it truly brings its condition 'back to the future.' The car has been further enhanced from a full cosmetic detail and a replacement of the often weakened and ageing door struts. The body and unique silver panels have remained largely free of any sort of dents or damage and still, have the appropriate panel gap alignment. Adding to its mechanical completeness is the original Craig digital cassette sound system, as well as the DeLorean’s unusual and seldom-seen factory space-saver spare wheel and tire.

At just 389 miles it is without doubt one of the least used example available to the market today and a very special opportunity to acquire 1 of these iconic motor cars.
