The Piece
Once a common sight on petrol station forecourts, when topping up your vehicle’s oil could be as regular an occurrence as brimming the fuel tank, oil dispenser cabinets are now a much sought-after piece of ‘petroliana’.
With surviving examples often rather dilapidated following decades spent outside and unloved, it’s rare to find such a good original dispenser as this one, which still nears its prominent Castrol livery and was in regular use by Bryan Wingfield himself. Complete with its three pumps which are all designed to hold a different grade of Castrol oil, the cabinet is in fantastic overall condition, devoid of any notable damage or corrosion. There’s a charming patina to the paintwork accrued over the years and we particularly like the period decals detailing which oil is available via each pump.
The shutter door still operates correctly and while we’re unable to confirm how well the pumps themselves work after all these years, they certainly present well, appear complete and still contain oil.
This is amongst the best surviving Castrol oil cabinets we’ve seen - an essential accessory for any automobilia collector and the perfect piece to occupy a corner in your classic workshop.
Please note the Grey Dura cabinets and workbench in the photo's are available via a separate auction, the Link is below.
