The Appeal

A Bentley Flying Spur is an imposing animal; powerful, fast, roomy and endlessly comfortable with every possible extra and driver aid.

For both driver/chauffeur and passengers, it makes short work of long distances and an event out of the shortest trip. It seats four in ultimate comfort with plenty of room for all their luggage in the boot.
A car such as this can easily find work as a high-quality wedding and events limousine or simply be used as the grandest of tourers for special days out for the family.

The History and Paperwork

The Bentley comes with little paperwork beyond its V5 and MOT certificate.

The Interior

 • Factory-fitted starlight LED interior ceiling
 • Gentle patina on seat leather
 • High level of equipment and extras
 • Dual air-conditioning front and rear (not tested)
The grey/mushroom leather in the Flying Spur shows a gentle patina, with the hides remaining supple and free of tears, though there is some handling marks on the thick door handles.

Stitching is good with the panels and cushions well defined. Its gentle shade makes the deep gloss and rich figuring of the wood veneer all the more striking, both in the door capping and the centre console/dash.
Driver controls and the dash area show a little more wear to the finish, but all instruments and switches are present and correct.
A feature you don’t see every day – not even in a Bentley – is the twinkling LED ‘starlight’ roof – a £15,000 factory-fitted extra no less, and certainly a conversation piece for those sitting in the rear.

The Exterior

 • Pearlescent white wrap
 • Black tinted privacy glass in rear
 • De-chromed black badge finish
The Bentley has been wrapped in a pearlescent white, which gives a ‘flip paint’ effect, showing traces of opalescent blues and pinks in certain light and angles.

The treatment has been done well – mirror edges and panel joins are good, with the whole looking very presentable across nearly all of the car save for one or two small corners or edges.

The original colour – a dark metallic blue-grey – can be seen under the bonnet, and of course remains intact under the white wrap.
Panel fit across the car looks good, with the (self-closing) doors shutting to leave narrow and even panel gaps. This goes for the bonnet and boot lid also.
The black-coated window surrounds show no signs of discolouration or corrosion under the coating, while the adjacent rubber door seals remain a healthy shade of black. The car’s badges have been de-chromed in favour of a satin black finish.
All the rear windows have been tinted black, though this appears discoloured or is lifting on the rear quarter lights.

The Mechanics

 • New battery recently fitted
 • MOT certificate valid until February 2023
 • On return from the new battery being fitted the car has developed a misfire. The owners ill health means he is unable to drive the car and does not want the extra expense of taking it back to the Bentley garage for investigation.
The Bentley’s engine bay appears pretty robust – everything looks to be intact and in the right place. Some surfaces look a little oxidised, but there don’t appear to be any areas of corrosion, and the deeper recesses of the engine bay looking fine.

Leads and hoses appear healthy and the rubber seals around the edge look supple with no signs of bleaching or cracks. Seals around the boot area are equally good, with the tools and tyre inflation kit under the floor remaining very much intact and showing no signs of water ingress.
Underneath, the Flying Spur shows an understandable degree of weathering, but appears robust.

The underside of the chin spoiler and the rear valance show no significant grazes, while the underbody panels fit neatly in place and sills look solid.

There are a couple of (very small) bubbling areas at the bottoms of wheel arches, but these don’t look hard to deal with.

While the car has a current MOT it hasn’t been driven on the road for some time. Therefore the brakes etc may need some attention so it would be advisable to collect this vehicle on a truck/trailer.

Summary

As already mentioned, with some work this car will offer its new keeper the opportunity to be either a working limousine or a (slightly extravagant) family car.

If it is simply going to be the latter, then the owner might wish to have the white wrap removed and to enjoy the original dark blue paintwork.
