THE APPEAL
Interest in Jaguar’s V8-engined XJ saloons (or X308s, to use enthusiast parlance) is increasing by the day as fans start to recognise the tremendous value they offer, as well as their status in the eyes of many as the last truly pretty XJ.
Those made from 2000-onwards are regarded as the best of the bunch, too, as the engines are generally tougher than those on early cars.
And that’s what we have here – an XJ8 with the larger 4.0-litre engine, registered in late 2000 and finished in the rare and unusual shade of Seafrost Green – so pale, it’s almost silver.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Jaguar document wallet
- UK V5C in the name of the vendor
- MOT until September 2022
- Owners’ manuals and books
- 4 previous keepers
Registered in the vendor’s name, the XJ had previously only had three keepers, the first of who kept it from new until 2013 and the second from then until 2021.
The car has its original Jaguar book pack and MOT until this September, but the original service book isn’t present.
THE INTERIOR
- Biscuit hide
- Mushroom carpets
- Good veneers
- Original stereo and CD Changer unit
The interior is a huge part of the appeal of any XJ of this era, and this one is no exception with lovely biscuit-coloured leather complemented by mushroom brown carpets and mats. It’s in good overall condition with only minor wear to the seat bolster.
The headlining is also drooping slightly but is by no means bad – we’ve seen far worse!

There are a couple of minor trim bits missing on the grab handles but otherwise it’s all in fine and very presentable order.
THE EXTERIOR
- Original paint and condition
- Smart “Celtic” alloys
- No major marks or damage
This is a completely original and very honest-looking X308 that looks absolutely sensational at first glance. Up close, it has a couple of minor cosmetic issues, but nothing disastrous.
There’s a small rust bubble on one rear arch and evidence of welded repairs in the past to the leading and trailing edges of both sills, but it’s all very solid and looks smart.

Other minor issues include small scuffs to the bumper corners and mirror caps and one rear door handle that doesn’t always open from the outside.
THE MECHANICS
- 4.0-litre V8
- 5-spd auto
- Starts and idles well
- Good oil pressure
This is the 4.0 V8, which is more desirable than the 3.2-litre model thanks to being usefully more powerful without being notably less economical.
The XJ8 starts effortlessly and appears to run well, with no known or declared issues. We were able to move it around for the photos and can report that it goes into all gears as it should, while the steering and brakes feel competent enough.
The vendor has been using the car himself and says that it drives fine with no problems to declare.
