The Appeal
To this day, the Daihatsu Fourtrak remains a firm favourite amongst the rural community. With rugged underpinnings consisting of leaf sprung beam axles and an old-school selectable four-wheel drive system, this Fourtrak still holds its own off-road.
These cars are often driven to destruction but this Fourtrak has clearly been looked after really well. Sure, there’s the odd dent, scratch and repair to be seen, but this nevertheless remains amongst the smarter surviving examples we’ve seen and is surely a modern classic.
The History and Paperwork
- V5C present
- The vendor informs us that an MOT test will be carried out upon the sale of the vehicle
- Holds a current MOT which is valid until February 2023
- MOT history shows that the car has been around the clock and that the total mileage covered is 132,356
- No previous keepers recorded on the V5C
- Has only covered around 300 miles over the last year
- Last major service in February 2022
The Interior
- Part of the Fourtrak’s appeal is the way their interiors are quite plush in spite of their utilitarian underpinnings
- Fitted with a rear roll cage
- This example has survived well with just some wear in places
- The dashboard is in great condition, as are the door cards, carpets and headlining
- We’re informed that all the instrumentation and switchgear works exactly as it should
- Equipped with a period Clarion stereo cassette radio
- Slight wear to the controls and the pedal rubbers are quite tired
- The front seats do exhibit some wear and have torn in places
- The rear seats have fared much better and remain in good shape
- The rear load bay is missing its lining carpet
- There are some splits in the lower squabs of the fold-down occasional rear seats
The Exterior
- Very presentable two-tone paintwork
- The bodywork remains very straight for a vehicle of this nature
- The vendor points out that the nearside rear wing has been dented and repaired and now looks presentable although the repair is visible
- We noticed a crack in the offside rear light lens and a small dent above it
- There is a little bubbling to the offside sill below the door and the same again on the nearside sill by the plastic trim
- The previous MOT noted corrosion within 30cm of a mounting point (referring to the inner rear wheel arches), which the vendor informs us has now been repaired to a good standard
- Underneath, the chassis looks to be sound with just a little surface corrosion in places
The Mechanics
- Equipped with Daihatsu’s dependable and immensely torquey 2.8-litre diesel engine
- Five-speed manual gearbox
- Selectable four-wheel drive and low range gearbox
- Starts with ease on every occasion and no faults were noted when underway
- New diesel injector pump and timing belt fitted fewer than 300 miles ago in February 2022
