The Background
Launched in 1989, the Mazda MX5 has become a firm favourite the world over. The first-generation models were known as the MX5 (NA) for the US & European markets and sold in Japan badged as the Eunos Roadster.
Their front engined, rear wheel drive configuration, combined with a well-designed & engineered chassis re-introduced the “roadster” concept to a younger generation seeking wind in your hair motoring.
Winning a number of accolades since it’s debut, it’s gone on to become the world’s best selling sports car.
The History
This Eunos was manufactured in 1990, spending the first 11 years of its life in Japan before being imported to the UK in September 2001.
Little is known of its history since then, but it was recently purchased locally by the vendor who believes it should go to someone who has the time to use it as intended.
The Paperwork
There is a current V5c registration certificate present and a current Mot until November 2021.
The vendor would happily have the car Mot’d before sale if required.
The Interior
The original interior is complete and tidy, seats show a little wear on the driver’s side bolster but otherwise would clean up nicely.
The carpets are complete and would appear to be original. A Momo steering wheel replaces the original.
Overall a tidy interior which would no doubt present well once valeted.
The Exterior
As can be seen from the photos, this MX5 looks good in the sunshine encountered on the day of the shoot. Presenting generally well in its red paintwork.
There are signs of paint fading on the bonnet, black overspray on the n/s lower door and a number of other overall finish issues over the whole car. We would suggest careful inspection of the photographs to satisfy that the overall finish suits a potential purchaser.
It does however appear to be overall sound in body and careful detailing would improve the general look of this Roadster.
The hood too appears to be in good condition and goes up and down as it should.
Wheels are standard MX5 alloys and are in a fair condition without and kerbing scuffs & the pop-up headlights work as expected.
The Mechanics
The engine starts, runs quietly with no visible smoke and snicks into gear as required. It was driven to the photoshoot and manoeuvred with ease.
The Appeal
The Mazda MX5 is the world's top selling sports car bar none.
With Japanese build quality and reliability, if it’s worry free, hood down fun you’re looking for then look no further, the MX5 is the car for you.
