The Appeal
Mercedes-Benz have long had a reputation for building some of the finest luxury saloon cars on the planet.
Certainly the W126 series added to that reputation with elegant styling, bulletproof engineering and luxuriously appointed cabins.
Certainly the W126 series added to that reputation with elegant styling, bulletproof engineering and luxuriously appointed cabins.
Here we have a second generation W126, presented in a very smart specification with a long MOT. As a way into classic Mercedes ownership, there can be few better in-roads than a W126.
With robust build quality and superb materials, they still feel as imperious on the road as they did in the late 80s.

- There is a scuff to the front off-side bumper and along the edge of the rear bumper
- Overall the bodywork looks to be straight and in good condition, with no evidence of corrosion or notable damage
- Underneath the car, the floors and sills look to be clean and solid, with no evidence of corrosion we could see
- There is some significant corrosion evident to a number of suspension components and some mounting points on the underside
- All wheel arches refurbished by the current ownerMOT advisory for perishing tyres
- Original 15” alloy wheels present in nice condition, with only minor blemishes
The Mechanics
- 2,960cc inline-six, fuel-injected petrol engine
- Develops 177bhp, delivered to the rear wheels
- 4-speed automatic transmission
- The engine bay is tidy and appears to be very original
- The current MOT notes a minor oil leak
- We’re told by the vendor that they have had all of the brakes overhauled during their ownership
- The owner says that the car drives perfectly, with no smoke on running, no unusual noises and no mechanical issues as far as they’re aware
Summary
We love a W126, few executive saloons have the kind of timeless, classless appeal and impressive robustness of a classic Mercedes.
This example is presented in very nice overall condition, with a fine colour scheme and high specification.
With the bodywork, engine and cabin all appearing to be in good order, with a little work to the underside this would soon be a very fine motorcar indeed.
