1987 Vauxhall Cavalier Convertible

Highlights

  • UNMOLESTED AND UNRESTORED
  • DRY STORED LAST 8 YEARS
  • FULLY SERVICED WITH RECENT CAMBELT

The Background

The Vauxhall cavalier was a very popular car during the 80’s, even outselling Ford’s Sierra for a few years, and was a full sized 4/5 seater saloon car offered with a variety of engines throughout its production.
For its day the front wheel drive saloon offered class leading fuel economy and performance, enjoying the benefits of a fuel injected 1.8 litre engine and although production levels were high, the sight of the convertible edition was, and is now even more so, a fairly rare sight indeed.

The History

Not much is known of the full history of this car prior to 2009, when it was acquired by its last owner as a present for her husband.

Believed to be an original and unrestored example it has spent the last 8 years in climate-controlled storage and now, having been thoroughly re-commissioned and fully serviced ready for the road, is offered up for sale by auction.

The Paperwork

The car comes with its V5c showing seven owners and various owner’s manuals and service manuals, and has three keys.
It will come with a full year’s MOT and a few old MOT certificates, which verify its relatively low mileage for such an old car.

The Interior

The grey twill interior is totally typical of the 80’s and is in really nice clean and tidy condition throughout, except for a tear on the driver’s seat bolster and a slight loosening of the covers themselves.
The basic interior is all there although it has had an aftermarket Bluetooth Radio/CD player added while the matching colour scheme door cards, carpet and hood interior are all in great shape, with the owner reporting that all the switchgear and electrics all work perfectly.
Both interior door handles appear to have some slight discolouration and it should be noted that the rear window plastic has become opaque and hard to see through.
The boot is dry and tidy and houses a spare wheel, the jack and some tools.

The Exterior

The bright red paintwork is in particularly nice condition and still has a deep gloss and shine to it with only a small scratch on the offside front wing, some paint missing from the front spoiler and a couple of stone chips marring the overall good condition. There are no patches or evidence of any paint bubbling and the black bumpers both at the front and the rear of the car are straight with no dents or damage but the black paint is lifting in places, which should be an easy fix.
The black hood fits well with little sign of fading and goes up and down nice and smoothly, but the plastic rear window, as previously mentioned, does require replacing or intensive cleaning if that’s possible.
The wheels and tyres are all in very good condition with no kerbing scuffs or scratches, and all the lights, including the additional driving lights, are free from fogging and any cracks.
A check under the bonnet brings no nasty surprises with no evidence of any obvious oil or coolant leaks, and the underneath of the car is in similarly good and clean condition and looks to have had a recent new exhaust system fitted.

The Mechanics

The car has been thoroughly checked over and fully serviced very recently and has had a new battery and cambelt fitted and the owner advises that the car starts and drives very well with no issues.

The Appeal

This well preserved and unmolested 1.8i Cavalier is a credit to its former keepers and has obviously benefitted from its long-term climate controlled storage. This rare and seldom seen model offers capable, practical and comfortable retro motoring, and guaranteed to be a hit at classic car meets and shows.
