The Appeal
Succeeding the internationally renowned E-Type, the XJ-S signalled a change in direction for Jaguar, awaying from sports cars to grand tourers, reflecting a burgeoning appetite for comfortable continental cruisers. The XJ-S proved successful and was built by Jaguar from 1975 until 1996.
Here we have a lesser seen variant, the XJ-SC Targa which represented a half-way point between the coupé and fully convertible variants. Imported to the Netherlands following a life in the United States of America, this V12 Jaguar is now looking for a new home.
The History and Paperwork
- Destined for US export from new
- Left-hand drive, with US-spec appointments such as the high level rear brake light
- Supplied new on 30th December 1986 by Sportique Motors of New York
- The car’s last US Title was issued in Tennessee in December 2011
- Now offered for sale in the Netherlands with all EU import duties and VAT paid
- Accompanied by its original service record which contains a number of stamps
- 86,499 miles indicated which we are unable to verify
- We’re informed that the engine number matches the VIN
- Supplied with its original backpack
- US Title and European import documents present
The Interior
- Cream leather upholstery in fair condition for its age
- Beside a couple of splits in the driver’s seat squab, the seats are in good order with moderate wear
- The brown carpeting is a mite worn in places, but remains eminently presentable
- The veneers are deteriorating a little on the dashboard but the upholstered dash top presents well
- No rear seats are fitted to the Targa model, leaving generous luggage room besides the front seats in addition the boot
- Equipped with a more modern stereo but otherwise the interior looks very original
- We understand that the cabin electric function as they’re supposed to
The Exterior
- Black paintwork shows off this Jaguar’s sleek lines and is in very good condition
- Down the sides, the swage lines remain crisp and the bodywork looks really straight
- Underneath, the floors appear really sound and we couldn’t see any corrosion that concerns us
- The soft top roof appears in really fine as the fabric remains taught while the back window remains transparent
- The alloy wheels look particularly smart for their age with only the smallest marks
- The chrome trim is in good order and continues to shine
- All of the light lenses present well and appear undamaged

Summary
This is a very smart example of one of the more unusual XJ-S. Presented in very good condition and reportedly in fine mechanical order, it would be a great addition to any collection.
