THE APPEAL
The Ford Cortina took the market by storm when the first generation was introduced in 1962. Designed to be an affordable, family-sized car that could be produced in large numbers, it outsold most of its competition with over a million first-generation cars manufactured. Twenty years and 4.3 million Cortinas later, the end was announced and production of the fifth and final marque came to halt in 1982.
This Mark V is one of the last Cortinas to leave the production line and has averaged a mere 1,300 miles a year since. A recent spruce-up and mechanical check-over have resulted in a tidy example of the British icon, which is becoming an increasingly difficult task thanks to declining numbers.

- Great condition
Inside this Cortina GL, you’re provided with 90’s pleasant simplicity. Comfort, practicality and affordability were always the leading selling points for the Cortina which is why it was so popular and the styling reminds you of just that.
The condition of the interior is fantastic throughout, quite impressive for the forty-year-old, especially as we’re told the car has never had a re-trim or restoration.
The Crushed Velour and Durham Fabric are a part of the GL upgrades, including a simulated wood dash fascia, push-button radio, perforated headlining, glovebox and full centre console.

THE EXTERIOR
- Blue paint in overall good condition, with some small imperfections
- Few minor blemishes present on bumpers
- Underside showing age
- Recently painted sills
- Recent paint refurb & wax
As the Cortina went through the decades, its styling and aesthetics adapted to keep up to date with modern designs and on-trend fashions. The late 70s brought larger, bulky square cars and as such the MK V followed suit and the result was an attractive, simple car that would offer practical, affordable transport for the stereotypical family.
The condition of the car is pretty good, there are a few marks here and there but overall the blue paint looks rich and glossy. The underside of the shell, mainly the rear, is showing its age a little but most 40 years tend to have a few wrinkles.
There’s a note of the sills being painted and the car having a refurb and wax, there’s no invoice to determine what exactly was done but the result is a great-looking car and a fine example of the model.

SUMMARY
This Cortina MK V is an attractive buy thanks to its good condition and incredibly low mileage but the reality is Cortinas are fast becoming just a memory of the good ol’ days, millions were sold worldwide yet here in the UK there are very few that have survived the years, so getting your hands on a Cortina of any age will continue to get more difficult and more expensive.
