The Background
The MGB debuted in 1962 and was an almost instant success. The now iconic British sports car had a production run of almost 20 years and was the best selling sports car in the world for much of this time.
With classic styling, a good engine and being easy to drive the MGBs success was all but guaranteed. The GT built upon the success of the roadster and with Pininfarina styling the body combined with the extra room provided the GT proved every bit the success.
The History
Whilst we don’t know much about the history of this car the current owner has had extensive work carried out by a specialist and has invoices exceeding £4000. For sale due to a change in circumstances this GT would make a fantastic easy restoration project or is ready to enjoy on the road.
The Paperwork
Whilst there isn’t much historical paperwork there is a set of invoices dated February this year totaling just under £5000. The invoice details the full recommissioning of the car which was originally bought complete but in parts.
The work includes (but is not limited to) the following; a full fuel system overhaul including a full clean of the fuel system and carb rebuild with a full set of new float needles, most of a new ignition system including distributor cap, plugs, HT leads and coil, new front calipers and brake pipes throughout, all fluids changed, new exhaust, new battery and new SS exhaust.

The Interior
The MGB GT benefits from a comfortable interior designed for touring pleasure and it still provides a fantastic driving experience over 40 years later. The seats are generally in good condition along with the door cards, however the dash would benefit from some sympathetic restoration due some areas of flaking paint, however this doesn’t detract from the driving experience.
The Exterior
The exterior is in fair condition and overall the car presents well. With Italian styling the GT’s certainly make an impression and stand out from the other MGBs. Most of the paint is sound with a few small areas of corrosion visible as shown in the images. The brightwork is in good condition with only some minor imperfections that a good polish should take care of.
The Mechanics
The car starts very easily and sounds lovely and smooth through the new SS exhaust. Having had a significant and recent rebuild (running gear - not the engine internals) the car drives very well with a nice smooth pull and easy stable cruising even at motorway speeds.
With all of the recent work carried out by a specialist this GT offers the opportunity to acquire a true British classic with the significant mechanical work already taken care of, ready for some cosmetic restoration or to enjoy as it is.

The Appeal
The MGB held the record for the world's best selling sports car for almost 20 years and the GT variant built upon the roadster's success to create something truly special. This 1974 GT benefits from still having chrome bumpers (later models had black plastic to meet US regulations) that combined with the Italian styling really make this car stand out.
