NO RESERVE - 1969 Jaguar MK2- 2.4/240 Barn Find

Highlights

  • Great potential as a restoration project
  • We understand that it was previously owned by the same family from new
  • Stored in a barn since 1992

The Appeal

Us car enthusiasts are peculiar creatures. We’re seldom more excited than when we see a vehicle emerge from years of slumber in an old barn or garage. Often untouched for many years, these cars are time capsules, they almost always have a great story behind them and this Jaguar is no exception…
Driven by the same lady from 1969 until 1992 when it was put away inside a barn, the car was then inherited by her grandson although it was not extracted from storage until very recently.
If you think you’re the right person to resurrect this classic MkII, then don’t miss this opportunity to acquire a genuine barn find.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 24th January 1969
  • We understand the car was owned by one family from new until the last owner acquired it
  • Used by the same lady since 1969 and stored in a barn since 1992
  • Her grandson eventually inherited the car but it remained in the barn until recently
  • The 48,292 miles displayed on the odometer is believed to be warranted
  • Comprehensive service history up until car was stored in the barn over thirty years ago
  • The original bill of sale, every MOT confirming mileage and all service invoices are reportedly present
  • Some period paperwork included the warranty card and original fuel ration book from the 1970s
  • Road Tax and MOT exempt due to its age
  • V5C present and registered with the DVLA

 The Interior

  • This interior appears complete and untouched in many years which is a great starting point for restoration
  • Upholstered in stylish blue leather which appears complete although in need of restoration
  • The door cards look to be complete with all their handles and trims
  • The veneered dashboard has suffered somewhat over time but all the instrumentation and switchgear appears to be present and in reasonable condition
  • The veneered door cappings appear in good condition, but would benefit from refinishing
  • The carpets are present, but now show their age

 The Exterior

  • Since leaving the barn where it had sat for thirty years, the Jaguar has cleaned up remarkably well
  • It would appear the front end was better protected from the elements than the rear
  • Most of the paintwork has survived and it now has a pleasing patination to the bodywork
  • There is evidence of corrosion, especially towards the rear and encompassing the boot lid, door bottoms, wheel arches and wheels
  • We note the chrome trim strip along bonnet is unattached but present with the car
  • The Jaguar ‘Leaper’ still stands proudly atop the bonnet
  • The chrome trim is pitted, unsurprisingly
  • There is some corrosion to the steel wheels, four Jaguar-badged hubcaps still present
  • The tyres will of course need to be replaced

 The Mechanics

  • Powered by the legendary DOHC six-cylinder XK engine in 2.4-litre form
  • Fuelling courtesy of twin SU HS6 carburettors
  • The engine compartment has a general layer of dirt and surface corrosion as expected from years in storage
  • Column shift automatic transmission
  • Naturally, a full technical inspection is will be required as no attempt to start or drive this car has been made for a number of years
NOTE: Vehicle will require collection by trailer or transporter as it does not start or drive

Summary

If you’re an ambitious home mechanic or else a professional restorer in need of your next project, don’t miss the chance to acquire this barn find Jaguar.
With a great story behind it and copious paperwork, it’s not often such a good opportunity arises.
