Iconic Defender 4x4 pick up
The Appeal
Land Rover have been producing the iconic Defender for sixty seven years, its go anywhere appeal, rigid structure and charm made it a global success.
With the all new model being introduced in 2019 the classic design has taken on even more appeal due to its diversity and easy to maintain set up. This recently restored 90 TDI has all the extras required for a full on off road adventure.
The History & paperwork
The car has had an extensive exterior restoration, completed by the chairman of a Land Rover club, the attention to detail is second to none and some nice extras have been added. There is some paperwork with the vehicle and the current MOT is valid until November 2022.
A folder is supplied with receipts detailing parts fitted and supplied over the course of its life. MOTs are present as well along with an extensive list by the previous owner of parts purchased as part of the vehicles restoration.
One area of note that the vehicle had been salvaged due to the estimated cost of repair exceeding the value of the vehicle, since then it has had a full restoration as the text details.
The Interior
Original interior
Wooden steering wheel
The interior of the Defender is believed to be original, with its basic design inside it has worn well and only area of note is that the drivers seat cover would ideally need replacing, or fixing as the bolster has a large crease in it. The passenger seat also has a tear in the base of it and would need a new cover ideally.
The car due to its overall build quality has held up very well, dashboard and
instruments are clean, all switches and with gears are operational. A Kenwood digital radio/CD unit is fitted and is fully operational.
The door cards are in a good condition and floor areas are clean and easy to maintain. The vehicle is fitted with extra security, this includes Yale locks, a battery isolator and a hidden micro switch to cut the fuel pump off.
The Exterior
Full respray
New tyres
Off Trek snorkel
The exterior due to a full professional respray looks like new, since the car has been on the road it has covered very little mileage and with new wheels and tyres is ready to be used as a workhorse again.
All bumpers, mirrors, glasswork is clean and free of any marks as you would expect from a high standard of restoration. New headlights and side indicator lights
compliment the exterior and show that nothing was missed out in making this as good as new.
An Off Trek snorkel is fitted, tow bar and the spare wheel is housed on a bracket that is separate from the rear door, making it easier to open and also clean the vehicle.
The heavy duty aluminium sump guard does have a small crease in it.
The Mechanics
2495cc Diesel engine
Full mechanical overhaul
The car had a full mechanical overhaul as part of its restoration, this included the suspension/drivetrain overhaul that covered belts, pumps and a recent service. New prop shafts, cam belt, radiator, exhaust system, starter motor means that this defender is in excellent condition throughout.
Summary
The Defender continues to be produced under its new guise through Jaguar Land Rover, the original though will stand the test if time for many years to come and this example is in stunning condition cosmetically and mechanically.
The Go anywhere attitude of the Defender means this car will cover any eventuality and provide the new owner with a dependable and enjoyable true off roader!
