Citroen Saxo Super 1600 Evo 2

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Saxo Super 1600 Evo 2 Rally kit car - suitable for rallycross car build
  • Major work done, just needs finishing
  • Thousands spent
  • No expense spared
  • Build was started by ex Citroen WRC Works mechanic

THE APPEAL

This is a rare opportunity to purchase one of the stunning Citroen Saxo Super 1600 Evo 2 cars. The project has been on the go since 2008 by the vendor's late husband, who was also a mechanic for the Citroen World Rally Team. Unfortunately, the owner was sadly taken before he could finish his dream build of creating a Saxo Super 1600 Evo 2.
The car has been taken to the next level with a fully seam-welded body shell, a full Matter Motorsport competition roll cage, and OMP seats. The suspension has been installed, and a fully rebuilt engine and sequential gearbox are ready to be installed. The wiring loom is not in the car, but there is a box of wiring plus a spare engine. There are many parts included, but it is not clear what is needed to complete the build; we do know that the car was nearing completion.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Project started in 2008
  • Extensive collection of invoices totalling thousands
  • Full Super 1600 Evo 2 parts catalogue on PDF included
  • Sadev ST75-14 Sequential gearbox manual
  • Please see the paperwork section for many of the parts purchased for the Saxo Super 1600 Evo 2

THE INTERIOR

  • Matter Motorsport competition roll cage
  • OMP HTE-R 400 Fibreglass Motorsports seats (Narrow Top)
  • Carbon fibre dash pod
As you can see, inside the Super 1600, a full Matter Motorsport competition roll cage is installed before painting the entire inside in bright Silver. The OMP HTE-R 400 Motorsports seats are mounted on OMP aluminium side brackets, which are adjustable to fine-tune your seating position. The door cards have also been flocked and fitted with a carbon fibre panel to align with the door bars. A 600mm vertical hydraulic handbrake has been used and mounted next to the sequential shifter.
The dashboard has been flocked and installed with carbon panels which have not been cut or drilled to mount any switches or instruments. The Alcantara steering wheel is quick-release, and again, the centre panel has not been drilled, leaving it free for you to position buttons where you need to. There is an OBP Motorsport floor-mounted three-pedal system installed with hydraulic cables, but these have not been connected.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Saxo Super 1600 Evo 2 body
  • O.Z. Racing wheels
  • Seam welded body
It’s like a Saxo on steroids, and it looks fantastic! The Evo 2 body has an aggressive stance with its wide arches and bigger wheels. The body has been painted in Citroen Motorsport Red, and the underside is finished in bright Silver to match the interior. As you look around the car, it is clear how much work went into prepping the body shell before painting. Fully welded and strengthened inner wings and chassis sections help create the perfect nimble race car.
The windscreen is fitted, but there don’t appear to be any other windows present from the parts that we saw. The wheels are 17” O.Z. Racing and fitted with new Michelin Competition tyres, but these are several years old; there is also another new set of wheels included.

THE MECHANICS

  • Rebuilt engine, never fitted
  • Sadev ST75-14 Sequential gearbox
  • Alcon big brake setup
The engine has been fully rebuilt but has yet to be installed or run. There is a carbon air intake to cover the trumpets. This will be mounted to the Sadev ST75-14 Six-Speed Sequential gearbox with reverse and a limited-slip differential, and there are two new driveshafts. The car uses 21mm torsion bars, a 25mm rear anti-roll bar and a 16mm anti-roll bar for the front. All the steering joints have been rose-jointed, and the suspension is from Extreme Racing Shox. There is an exhaust system which is installed up to the downpipes, and the four-branch manifold has been treated with heat-wrap, which is attached to the engine. The brake set-up consists of Alcon callipers and grooved front and rear discs.

SUMMARY

Chances like this don't come along very often! The opportunity to finish building your very own Super 1600 Evo 2 Saxo. With most of the hard work completed, it leaves just the assembly to be done. There will be some parts which are needed, such as the windows, but the main components, such as the engine, gearbox, steering, and suspension, all look to be in place. As mentioned earlier, the wiring loom is not installed, but there is a wiring loom and other parts included.
This is a fantastic project near completion and will be an incredible machine once completed.
