The Appeal
The MGA was built to try and catch up on a market that was threatening to leave MG behind. The 50s had brought all manner of new British sports cars onto the market - and while many of them were sleek, curvy and streamlined, MG's offerings were all based upon pre-war lineage. This was their revolution moment, bringing them right up to date in a fabulous, sweeping roadster.
This example is the upgraded 1600, with an updated, larger B-Series block and disc brakes to the front. The car was now more potent than ever and offered a more engaging, capable sports car for the petrolhead public. This was much the story abroad, too.
This example is from South Africa, and while we've not been able to identify its specific build date, it's a very handsome car. Its striking white livery matches beautifully with its navy blue leather upholstery. The car is still starting and running well, and—crucially—the dry environment of South Africa has left it in beautiful condition.
