The Appeal

When it comes to selling fire breathing, track conquering, heavily tuned performance cars, it's fair to say no one does it quite like AMG. The Mercedes based outfit have been responsible for some truly excellent performance pieces over the years and their current swansong is the legendary AMG GT lineup. Impressively capable when the roads get twisty, with enough exuberance to turn heads in the expensive bits of the Monopoly board, the AMG GTs have long been cemented as the Mercedes flagship performance lineup, none so more than in top flight AMG GTR format.
Taking the already bonkers AMG GT and GTC models and turning everything up that little bit more to 11, with a wider, more aggressive stance and blistering 577 horsepower 4.0 litre V8, the AMG GTR is quite possibly the most capable and exotic modern Mercedes money can buy, and comes with a level of exclusivity not found on the lower ranking models. In its coveted Roadster format, like the one we have here today, the GTR has been limited to just 750 units worldwide, meaning not only does it have style and performance covered but it firmly puts a tick in the rarity box as well.
Exquisitely presented both mechanically and aesthetically, with just one owner from new and less than ten thousand miles on the clock, this 2020 AMG GTR Roadster is arguably one of, if not the finest example of Mercedes’ poster child available on the market today and is surely enough to widen the eyes of the most discerning Mercedes enthusiast.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered 30/11/2020
  • Purchased by the current, and only owner in late 2020
  • Currently resides on the private registration F1 MRU, however this will be removed prior to sale
  • Accompanied by the Mercedes Benz owners book pack
  • Whilst the service history for modern Mercedes’ are digital, we have been provided a printout highlight what services have been performed on the car
  • Both service A and B have been performed with the latter taking place just a matter of months ago
  • No MOT required at present as the car is not old enough
  • V5 registration document is with the vehicle and highlights it as a one owner car

The Interior

  • Incredibly high specification cabin
  • Excellently presented in like new order
  • Factory Burmester high end audio system
Naturally, being Mercedes’ top flight, flagship roadster, we find the interior space to be specced incredibly highly as standard. Packed to the rafters with technology, amenities and lavish upholstery, the GTR cabin is a lovely place to be and an excellent demonstration of modern Mercedes on top form.
Two excellent bucket style AMG sports seats sit proudly within the cabin, providing excellent support for their occupants in more spirited driving without being harsh or uncomfortable, we find these to be presented in brilliant order, boasting high quality rich black leather with diamond stitching still in like new shape. The same can be said for the beautifully upholstered door panels, embellished with quality door furniture and the swooping black dash panel, all in impeccable form and working well to demonstrate the high standard to which this car has been upheld.
The central control panel is arguably what takes precedence within the cabin and is a work of art in its own right. Adorned with carbon fibre trim, a beautiful adjustable pod style vent setup and contrasting metal finish accessories, the panel works as a base of operations for the GTR with nearly everything able to be controlled from here or the adjoining display screen. The panel, screen and surrounding switchgear are all in fine fettle and as we understand, the vast selection of controls are all in good working order.
Plush black carpeting completes the look within the cabin, draping its way across both the floor and the well sized rear boot area of the car, all, naturally in exceptionally clean order.

The Exterior

  • Bold exterior styling with incredible road presence
  • Finished in a satin grey factory colour scheme
  • Factory GTR rear spoiler
  • Electric soft top roof
  • Full Paint protection film installed
With endless bonnet peeking out over the windscreen, and impressively wide track, and a host of subtle, and not so subtle styling tweaks versus its more tame descendants, the GTR is surely one of the finest looking Mercedes AMG cars of all time, and in this deep grey satin factory colour scheme, has outstanding, almost ominous road presence. Make no mistake, this car is the very personification of the phrase head turner.
The deep grey exterior colouring is of an impeccable standard, with the fact the car has covered less than ten thousand miles from new, paired with careful enthusiast ownership meaning it hasn’t had time to accumulate signs of age related marking or blemishing and likely will continue not to, having had PPF paint protection installed by its current owner. Instead what we have here is a car that from an aesthetic perspective, looks as though it has rolled straight out of the showroom doors. Styling is further boosted by a wider factory stance, aerodynamic pack and rear wing unique to the GTR series of cars.
What sets this car apart though, is the factory electric soft top, this being a GTR Roadster after all. Finished in a deep black hue, the soft top is of a brilliant quality and in just a matter of seconds, operates quickly and smoothly to transform the look of the car and provide an excellent open top experience for its occupants.
External trim, badging and glass work is of a similarly high quality to the rest of the bodywork and at ground level we find a beautiful set of 20” black and silver AMG alloy wheels shod to Pirelli P-Zero tyres in front of contrasting yellow AMG brake callipers.

The Mechanics

  • 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine
  • Uprated to 577 horsepower from the factory
  • Incredibly capable dynamically
  • Recent Mercedes “Service B”
Look under the long sweeping bonnet of the GTR and one finds a beating heart of gold in the form of AMG’s 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine. Seen in many adaptations amongst the AMG lineup, but in this, the top flight flagship roadster, it has been tuned and brought up to a blistering 577 horsepower, taking the GTR from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds and continuing on to a top speed just under the 200mph mark. The GTR Roadster is some seriously impressive hardware, let's get that straight.
With adaptive dampers from the factory, and a seven speed dual clutch transmission, the GTR is incredibly capable from a dynamic perspective, but what strikes about this model is its sheer adaptability and usable nature. Naturally if you want a fire breathing V8 performance monster that can conquer a track or scare a small village, it can handle that with ease, but at the same time, it is more than comfortable cruising along at a more gentle, every day pace, eating up the miles in impressive refinement. The GTR certainly has something of a Jekyll and Hyde quality to it which in this case, is no bad thing.
This particular example is presented in excellent mechanical order, having covered less than ten thousand miles from new, the engine and driveline are still seen to be in excellent order and benefit from a recent service just a matter of months and around 600 miles ago, meaning the GTR is fresh and ready to go for its next loving owner.

Summary

A symphony in satin grey. This AMG GTR Roadster is truly a spectacular car and something to behold, effortlessly holding the balance between, a raughty jaw dropping V8 monster and refined performance cruiser. Impressively capable of conquering both sides of the coin, it's an excellent demonstration of AMG on top form and is surely one to be sent into the marques hall of fame.
With just one owner from and a recent Mercedes service, this sub ten thousand mile example is surely one of the finest examples of AMG’s coveted Roadster out there and is primed and ready for a life at the hands of a new loving owner.
