THE APPEAL
As iconic performance cars go, the AC Cobra is up there with the most famous in the world. It’s no surprise, then, that it has often been copied, with some replica better than others.
This one is arguably one of the very best, based on a kit supplied by Classic Replicas, which is regarded by some as one of the finer manufacturers of Cobra clones.
It’s a full-blooded thing, too, powered by a General Motors 5.7-litre (or 350Ci) small block V8, with a five-speed manual Getrag transmission as used by BMW and Jaguar. It’s a full-on thing – a proper red-blooded sports car that sounds and goes as good as it looks.
It was ordered in 2001 but never completed, with final assembly in 2019 to a very high standard. It has covered just 817 miles since, meaning its barely run-in, and has the benefit of an age-related DVLA plate rather than a Q-registration.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- Constructed in 2019
- Full UK V5
- Not a Q-plate
- IVA and SVA-approved
THE INTERIOR
- Cream luxury leather
- Willans racing harnesses
- Mota-Lita wheel
- Power steering
It’s obviously quite a small cabin in the Cobra, but nevertheless no corners have been cut in pursuit of making it as plush as possible. It gets luxury cream leather with dark blue piping, blue Wilton carpets bound in cream leather, classic gold rimmed Smiths instruments, a Moto-lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, Willans four-point harnesses, a Cobra emblem gear knob, and aluminium AC-emblemed pedals.
Security and convenience features include a high-end immobiliser, heater and hydraulic power-assisted steering.
THE EXTERIOR
- Wimbledon White stripes
- Really smart and well-finished
- Authentic replica alloys
- Chrome rollover hoops
This is a fabulous car to look at and one that would easily pass as the real deal to the untrained eye. It’s in classic Viper Blue with Wimbledon White Cobra stripes, and the finish is utterly superb.
It is smartly finished off with chrome bumpers, Cobra badges, chrome mirrors, wind wings, stainless steel wipers, a pair of single hoop roll bars, a large polished Le Mans fuel filler, four-into-one chrome side exhaust pipes and 17” “Image GTD” Hallibrand alloy wheels with quality Bridgestone tyres.
THE MECHANICS
- 5.7-litre LS2 small block GM V8
- Five-speed Getrag manual
- Edelbrock performance manifold and Holley carb
- Four-pot Jaguar brakes
The Cobra evocation is powered by a 350ci Chevrolet V8, built by P.D Sportscars (official build agents for AK Sportscars) to 5,736cc. The specification includes four-bolt mains, hypereutectic dome top pistons, a Holley carburettor and Edelbrock performance inlet manifold. It runs on standard unleaded fuel and produces around 350bhp and 405 lb ft of torque. In other words, it’s monstrously quick.
It looks the part, too with an Edelbrock chrome air filter, Edelbrock chrome rocker covers, stainless steel header tank, all braided and silicone pipes and hoses, aluminium pulleys and a chrome alternator bracket.
Brakes are servo-assisted four-pot Jaguar items with ventilated front discs, while adjustable coil-over shocks are also included.
It has a documented build file including IVA/SVA certificate and build receipts. This vehicle was purchased from a well established replica specialist last year for around £36,000 and although the car starts, moves and stops with no obvious major faults being evident she has only covered very minimal mileage since completion in 2019. With this in mind the seller strongly believes she would benefit from a good tune-up and general going over before any use as there are likely niggles which have arisen and may be faults which are not noted.
The seller has set a sensible reserve price which reflects this fact.

SUMMARY
This is a proper guts and glory machine – as close as you can realistically get to a proper Cobra without needing an absolute fortune. It’s a fantastic car that not only looks the part, but has been built to an exacting standard and is beautifully finished.
