The Appeal
Norton was the first motorcycle builder to produce a production Superbike, having launched the Commando in 1967. It quickly became their best well-known bike and became a favourite of both the police and the racetracks. The original run of bikes ended in 1977, but it was clear that the fondness and reputation of these bikes remained deep in the consciousness of the public long after the originals left the factory. Several modern reworkings of the Commando have been released over the years, and in 2018 a limited run of just 50 bikes was released to celebrate the Commando's 50th anniversary.
Finished with a unique numbered plaque, the California was built for the more discerning rider, with finer details and quality helping to justify the higher price. A hand-built frame kitted out with Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes, high bars, and a comfortable riding position offers a modern take on an iconic classic. Powered by the well-known 961 cc air-cooled parallel twin, it offers a good spread of torque with a satisfying ride.
This 2018 example has only seen two previous owners, comes with all of its past MOTS and has four service stamps. It is presented exceptionally well, with very little in terms of wear, no doubt due to its documented low mileage of just 3,697 miles. Complete with its certification of authenticity, a race stand and two keys, it also has an MOT to July 2024.
