The Appeal

Sage words from Mr Frankel there, and indeed Caterhams don’t come much more straightforward than the very special Seven Sprint - a retro-inspired limited edition model built to celebrate sixty years of the Seven. Fittingly, just sixty examples were ever built and all of them were snapped up in just seven days. The Sprint featured a suitably classic colour scheme, Lotus Seven-style swept wings, skinny steel wheels with hubcaps, and an eager 660cc three-cylinder engine by Suzuki.

Sure, the Sprint’s mere 80 bhp may not sound like much, but when you consider that it’s kerb weight is a similarly modest 490 kilograms, it all starts to make sense. Like Lotus founder and man behind the original Seven, Colin Chapman said, “simplify and add lightness”.

This 2017 Caterham Seven Sprint was originally owned by the entrepreneur of Dragon’s Den fame and well-known car enthusiast Leo Paphitis. It’s car number 22 of 60 and is likely the best one in existence thanks to its incredibly low mileage. With 880 miles on the clock, it’s hardly turned a wheel, and as the photographs show, it’s in superb original condition.

If you missed out on the Seven Sprint the first time around, as so many Caterham enthusiasts did, now’s your chance to acquire a practically showroom-fresh example.

Frankly, there’s not a great deal to say when it comes to the condition of this car. Having hardly been driven at all since new, there are no obvious signs of wear or deterioration to report. It’s impeccably presented throughout and comes with a full set of wet weather gear. Even the tyres, OEM-spec Avons, are a nearly new set. This Catherham truly wants for nothing; it’s ready to drive or display.

The vendor notes that all their cars undergo a 120 point Pre-Delivery Inspection, and so this Caterham will go to its new owner in one hundred percent ready-to-use condition. Having covered so few miles, and undergoing servicing regardless, all is said to be in excellent order. We’re informed that the Seven is enormous fun to drive, and we can well believe it.
