The Appeal

The Morgan encapsulates everything that is joyous about vintage open-top motoring while ensuring you'll actually arrive at your destination without oil stains on your shirt sleeves. Sure they’re anachronistic and nowhere near as practical as modern cars but when it comes to pure, unadulterated fun, Morgans are hard to beat.
The Roadster, equipped with its 3.7-litre Ford Duratec engine is both an entertaining and a capable machine. The owner of this lovely 2015 example recently completed a trip from Cumbria to the Pyrenees and reports that the car never missed a beat. If you like the sound of this hand built British curiosity, then this low mileage Roadster would be a great car to consider.

The Interior

  • Mulberry upholstery
  • Wonderful original condition
  • Walnut dashboard
Part of the Morgan’s brilliance is how it exhibits traditional British craftsmanship and materials. While keeping things basic, you and your passenger certainly don’t have to put up with any discomfort.
You sit upon heated leather seats which, in this example, are finished in the attractive shade of Mulberry with black piping and have the Morgan emblem embossed into the headrests. The seats display little in the way of wear besides some gentle creasing and certainly no damage so far as we could see.
Having covered few miles, it’s no surprise that there isn’t much wear to report elsewhere either. The carpets bear little evidence of foot traffic and the controls also remain in great condition.
An Alpine stereo is discreetly concealed underneath the walnut dashboard, as are the controls for the heated seats which the vendor comments are a great feature when you have the roof down on chillier mornings. All the instrumentation held within the dash along with the remaining switchgear is in really nice shape and there are reportedly no faults.

The Exterior

  • Saab Steel Grey Metallic
  • Maroon hood
  • Chromed, centre locking wire wheels, overriders and rear luggage rack
Steel Grey Metallic really suits this Morgan and it complements the chrome accents on the grille, wire wheels, overriders and luggage rack. While we’re sure the odd small blemish and stone chip can be found upon close inspection, there is little to find fault with when it comes to this paintwork.
The body is really straight with no dents in sight and we couldn’t see any corrosion whatsoever. Underneath, this example is particularly smart and all looks to be clean, undamaged and unsullied by corrosion. The vendor informs us that the Morgan is only driven in the summer months and has been kept in a dry garage.
A Maroon soft top complements the interior and we note that the fabric is in really nice shape. The removable door tops too are really smart and all the associated mechanisms operate smoothly.
The car sits upon wire wheels which further add to the vintage feel. These are in really nice shape and are shod with high quality Avon tyres. For those longer road trips, luggage capacity is increased with a suitcase rack that fits over the spare wheel and the vendor informs us this was fitted when the car was last serviced.

The Mechanics

  • 3.7-litre Ford Duratec V6
  • Six-speed manual gearbox
  • Runs and drives perfectly with no faults to report
With a fairly narrow pedal box and refreshingly analogue manual gearbox, this Morgan feels charmingly old fashioned to drive but not in a way that makes it overly challenging.
That 3.7-litre V6 packs one heck of a punch in a car this small, this light and this devoid of driver aids. It’s as fast as you could possibly want it to be but at the same time does sedate very well with the modern six-speed gearbox making gear selection a doddle.
The vendor informs us that this example drives really well, with no issues to report.

Summary

There’s something rather marvellous about Morgans and until you’ve driven one, it can be hard to explain.

To drive, there’s nothing quite like them, so if it’s an itch you’re yet to scratch, we urge you to consider this wonderful example.
