2015 Ford Mustang Fastback GT 5.0 V8

Highlights

• Full Shelby wide-body kit
• Carbon fibre bonnet
• Switchable Borla sports exhaust
• UK Registration now complete

The Background

Carroll Shelby’s first collaboration with the Ford Motor company was way back in the 1960’s when his race and performance expertise was engaged to develop the GT40 race car for competing in the Le Mans 24 Hour race which at the time was dominated year after year by Ferrari.
The collaboration was a success and Ford and Shelby continued through the years working together to produce a whole series of high-performance versions of their famous muscle car, the Ford Mustang.
The 2015 Mustang was the sixth generation Mustang and featured fully independent rear suspension, which improved handling immensely, with the GT 500 model being powered by a 5.0 litre V8 producing around 430 BHP.

The History

Imported last year from the USA this car features a full Shelby wide-body kit, up-rated 20” wheels, a switchable Borla sports exhaust system and a full carbon fibre bonnet.

The Paperwork

The car has now been UK registrered with registration mark KF64 HHL and comes with an MOT and receipts for its full service earlier this year.
The car has a space saver spare wheel and comes with 2 sets of keys.

The Interior

The well-equipped interior features leather sports seats which, having white inserts, are looking a little dirty. The passenger seat has a small tear in the seat but otherwise, other than the odd scuff here and there, the interior is in very fine condition, with a plaque proudly showing its Shelby heritage and conversion.
The push-button start and electronic damper control settings make you fully aware of this car’s performance promise and it’s fully automatic or manual modes are there to suit every driver mood.

The Exterior

In its vibrant blue colour and Shelby wide-body kit this is a hard car to miss. It gives no illusion as to the intent of the car and this is helped by the addition of those 20” wheels and its aggressive stance.
There are a few small paintwork issues to point out with some reaction and blemish at the front of the carbon fibre bonnet, with a similar small patch on the roof, and the odd paint chip by the driver’s door.
There is some gravel rash by the look of it on the front spoiler and the left-hand headlight glass has a small crack.
The side skirts, which have had a carbon fibre effect wrap applied, is beginning to delaminate on one of the side skirts, but the rest of the external carbon-fibre all looks good.
Wheels and tyres are all in nice condition and the puncture evident in the photographs will have been attended to before the auction starts.

The Mechanics

The car is reportedly in perfect mechanical condition with no issues or items not working correctly.
The car has had a full service in April of this year and the car starts instantly at the touch of the start button, and either roars or purrs, depending on the setting for the sports exhaust.
A quick look under the bonnet reveals nothing of obvious concern and looks in very good condition.

The Appeal

The Ford Mustang is one of the great iconic cars of our time, and pretty much started a motoring revolution and helped coin the phrase ‘muscle car’.
Earlier Mustangs were always criticised for their rather poor handling, but the 2015 models having the independent rear suspension made a huge improvement in this area and the GT 500 is certainly a car designed to deliver true driver performance and enjoyment.
