2014 Land Rover Defender 110 XS TD D/C

Highlights

  • 37,994 miles from new
  • Comprehensive service record
  • High specification
  • 2.2-litre turbo-diesel
  • MOT to March 2024

The Appeal

What can we say about the Land Rover (latterly known as the Defender) that hasn’t already been said? Tough, capable, practical and effervescent – it’s the classless, timeless car that does everything you could want, and quite a bit more besides.
They’re as popular now as they’ve ever been, with older examples highly prized by collectors and more modern machines making for excellent, non-nonsense daily transport.
This particular Defender is the sought after 110 variant, replete with seven seats, a fine specification, low mileage and a good service record. Whether you’re looking for a vehicle that can take you on adventures in the wilderness or simply provide all the space and ability you could need, this would be the perfect solution.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in September 2014
  • Three owners from new
  • Current owner since March 2022
  • MOT to March 2024
  • Just 37,994 miles from new, verified by service and MOT records
  • Less than 300 miles covered since July 2021
  • Comprehensive service history – eight stamps, six main dealer and two independents
  • Last service in July 2021 at 37,783 miles

The Interior

  • Half leather upholstery
  • Air conditioning
  • Front heated seats
  • Alpine CD/radio system with Aux, USB and Bluetooth
  • Seven seat layout, with rear fold-up seats
The upholstery is a smart half leather, with fabric centres to the seats and contrast stitching. It all presents in excellent condition, with no notable wear or damage apparent. That seven seat layout, with the two most rearward seats able to fold-up to increase load capacity, is very practical too.
Speaking of practicality, the car is fitted with thick, high quality OEM rubber matting all through, as well as a heavy duty load-liner at the rear. So whether you’re hauling muddy kids back from a sports day, muddy dogs back from a run or muddy bikes, canoes etc. – it should be nice and easy to get things clean again. All of the mats look to be in good order, with no damage we could discern. The headlining also presents very well, with no damage, sagging or staining in evidence.
Looking around the cabin, all of the driving controls and switchgear look to be ageing well, with minimal wear and tear on show. The vendor doesn’t report any faults of issues with any of the car’s features.

The Exterior

  • Dark metallic blue paintwork
  • Roof height snorkel
  • Checker plate to the sills and wing tops
  • Chunky side steps / rock sliders
  • Rear mounted spare wheel, complete with cover
  • Tow hitch and rear fold-up step
  • Rubber mud flaps all round
  • Privacy glass for the rear cabin
We think the metallic dark blue paint of this Defender suits the car perfectly, giving it a neat modern slant while remaining true to its heritage. It presents in fine fettle overall, with the only mark of note being a slight scratch to the near-side rear quarter.
Similarly, all of the bodywork appears to be straight and true, with no significant corrosion, dents or damage on display. There’s what appears to be a little surface corrosion to the rear cross member – a very common issue with these – but otherwise it all looks spick and span.
The car benefits from a number of optional external trim pieces, including checker plate, side steps, rear step, snorkel and rear spare cover. These all show well, with no issues we could identify.
Smart five-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels freshen up the classic design nicely. They wear a handsome silver finish and all look to be in very good condition, with no kerbing or lacquer peel we could see. They are dressed in a matched set of high profile Continental Cross Contact AT tyres – perfect for providing a comfortable ride and also for traversing rural lanes and fields.
Underneath the car, everything looks straight, solid and free from damage. There’s the usual coating of surface corrosion to some of the drivetrain components and the exhaust, but nothing beyond what is commensurate with the car’s age and use.

The Mechanics

  • 2,198cc four-cylinder turbo-diesel
  • Six-speed manual transmission
  • Locking differentials
  • All-wheel drive with low range box
Of course, where the Defender shines is always in the mechanical department. That 2.2-litre turbo-diesel provides a healthy slug of power and especially torque – more than enough for whatever you may need.
Add to that the all-road ability of the drivetrain, with its locking diffs and low range transfer box, and you have a vehicle that can get the whole family to pretty much anywhere you may want to be – and back again.
With low mileage and a comprehensive service record, this fine Defender should have many more years – maybe even decades – of faithful service left.

Summary

If you want a vehicle to dominate the landscape, but have the ability to scrub-up and happily do the school run or bimble about town, then this Defender is the ideal solution. With low miles, a fine service record and an excellent specification, we can't recommend it highly enough.
