The Background

Introduced in 1969, the Range Rover was Land Rover’s brave move into the luxury off-roader market. In fact, it was more than that - it was the first luxury off-roader. It was a concept that worried bosses, as they thought it would be too much of a niche departure from the ‘spit and sawdust’ ruggedness of the far more agricultural Land Rover range. However, their worries were in vain, as the Range Rover was quickly adopted by the buying public. It was handsome, it had genuine off-road ability that nothing else could rival and it was enticingly luxurious to boot.
Now on its fourth-generation, the Range Rover has become a motoring mainstay. A car we all aspire to own. The only thing is, finding a great one can be tough. Happily though, that’s exactly what we have here in the guise of a one owner Vogue SE in rare Aintree Green and with a full main dealer history.

The History

This one owner Range Rover Vogue SE was supplied by Matford Land Rover of Exeter. It’s powered by the venerable TDV6 diesel engine producing 285bhp and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The exterior colour is Aintree Green metallic, which is now only available as a special order colour. The interior is a contrasting, lovely Almond Espresso with heating and cooling functions along with massage, which was protected from new. There is also plenty of Shadow Walnut Veneer and even a heated leather steering wheel.
Other options include 20-inch ‘Stormer’ alloy wheels, paddle shift transmission, a cooled front centre console, DAB radio and TV receiver, electric retracting tow bar, panoramic sliding roof with blind, front and rear parking sensors, power tailgate, adaptive cruise control and lane change assist. It is, for lack of a better way of putting it, loaded. And everything works as it should.

The Paperwork

Paper is perhaps the wrong word for this particular vehicle, as there is nothing available that you can hold. Instead, the service history is digital and with Matford Land Rover of Exeter, the Range Rover’s supplying dealer. The car currently has 108,000 miles on the clock and has been serviced to manufacturer specification throughout its life.
The service history, which the owner will be able to provide on sale, also documents some works carried out. This was the replacement of the inlet manifold assemblies, which was again carried out by Matford and used genuine parts. This has been the only slight fault in the car’s history. As for the MOT, there is one in place until October 2021. It passed the last MOT without any advisories.

The Interior

Having been ordered with interior protection when new, the cabin of this Range Rover Vogue SE is a really rather lovely place to be. It may have 108,000 miles to its name, but it doesn’t show at all. There is some minor wear on the carpet by the pedals from use, but that’s really all there is to report.
The leather is in excellent condition in the front and in the back, as are the main interior carpets. The door cards are all well presented, with no heavy marks or damage. All the wood is in excellent condition, and all the switchgear on the doors works as it should. Looking up, you’ll be greeted by a full panoramic roof with retractable blind, all of which functions as it should. It also makes the cabin feel extremely light and airy.
The dash, which is a digital screen rather than the traditional arrangement of dials, works as it should and is bright and clear and with no dead pixels. The same can be said for the centre screen which controls the infotainment system. The switchgear on the dash all works as it should, there are no error codes to be seen. The air-conditioning blows ice hold, the seats cool and warm, and the steering wheel heater works as it should.
Finally, in the boot, the electronic opening function works as it should and without any suggestion of wear or strain. The parcel shelf is in good condition with only a few small marks from use. The rear load area is well presented, though there are some marks on the beige carpet, which is to be expected given the colour and the age of the vehicle.

The Exterior

Finished in rare Aintree Green Metallic, this Range Rover Vogue SE certainly stands out from the others. The colour is no longer available, and the closest is a special order British Racing Green at well over £6,000. As such, this example is desirable on colour alone.
The body of this range rover presents well. There are no dents or significant imperfection to be observed. There is a minor scuff on the nearside front arch, which we have photographed. And there are some light surface imperfections down the flanks. The current owner lives down a narrow lane, so these marks are from the foliage. Nothing a polish wouldn’t remove.
The plastics are all in good condition, with only one minor scrape to a lower front fog light housing. The lights are all bright, clear and free from any cracks or hazing. And finally, all four wheels are in excellent general condition with only the odd mark to be observed. No heavy curbing though, and all the tyres have plenty of life left in them.

The Mechanicals

As you would expect from a one owner car with full main dealer history, this Range Rover is in rude mechanical health. The engine is strong, there is no smoke on startup, the power is delivered smoothly and without the slightest hint of any reluctance. It’s also a pleasingly smooth thing to drive, thanks in no small part to that eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. You can, should the mood take you, shift ‘manually’ with the paddles. But honestly, you’ll just want to leave it in automatic mode and waft along.
The brakes are healthy, the rest of the driveline, too. The four wheel-drive system works as it should with no issues, errors or untoward noises. This Range Rover is simply in excellent mechanical health, as given many out there have done twice the mileage of this one, there are many years of motoring left to be enjoyed. The fastidious maintenance has seen to that.

 The Appeal

One owner, full main dealer history, wonderfully presented and in a rare colour - what’s not to like? This isn’t like other Range Rovers that have been passed from pillar to post. This one has been cared for from day one, and it shows. And with that, it presents you with an opportunity to get yourself a Range Rover Vogue SE with all the toys but none of the worry of a comparable vehicle that has had a fleet of owners. This could well be the last car you ever need, but only if you get bidding.
