THE APPEAL
There are few vehicles that match the iconography of the Land Rover Defender, which is an enduring legend that’s becoming ever more collectable since production ceased in 2016.
This one is a late model, first registered in September 2013, and it’s a low-mileage example, too. A seven-seater, it’s fully equipped for adventure and is achingly cool.
The vendor has owned it for the past year and used it for a few special trips of his own, but he’s clearing space in his warehouse to expand his business so is reluctantly letting it go to a new home.
THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK
- UK V5C
- MOT April 2023
- Two owners
- Reduction of a private collection to create space for business expansion
THE INTERIOR
- Seven-seater with forward facing rear seats
- Centre cubby
- Air conditioning
- Two-tone cloth and faux leather trim
This is the XS model, so is comprehensively equipped with two-tone cloth and faux-leather upholstery, air conditioning and electric windows – great news for those used to manual window winders taking up vital elbow room in the cabin.
It’s also a seven-seater, with a pair of fold-up rear seats in the truck’s luggage area that are forward-facing and have full three-point seatbelts, making it family-friendly.
The only minor fault is with the headlining, which has started to sag slightly behind the sunroof.
THE EXTERIOR
- Excellent condition
- Black ‘Boost’ alloy wheels with Cooper all-terrain tyres
- Snorkel
- Roof rack
- Black chequer plate trim and rock sliders
Finished in two-tone white under black, the Defender looks incredibly cool, with darkened privacy glass, a roof rack, snorkel, black rock sliders and black chequer plate on the wing tops so you can climb up and reach the roof rack. It also has an access ladder on the rear.
The presentation is immaculate – it’s clearly a truck that hasn’t had a hard life nor been driven in anger off-road. It sits on gloss black ‘Boost’ alloy wheels, equipped with meaty Cooper all-terrain tyres.
THE MECHANICS
- 2.2-litre Ford-derived diesel
- Six-speed manual transmission with dual range functions
- Low mileage
- Drives very well
Under the bonnet you’ll find a 2.2-litre version of the Ford-derived ‘Puma’ diesel, as used in the Transit, Mondeo and Jaguar X-TYPE. It’s a unit renowned for its smoothness and longevity and it drives very well indeed.
According to the vendor it operates without fault and the transmission works as it ought to in both high and low ratios. There are no reported issues with the steering, brakes or suspension.
SUMMARY
High-spec Defenders are very desirable things and this one has got the lot – all of the adventure accessories, a great interior and the smoothest engine found in the model. It’s immaculately presented and is in great working order. A vehicle that will attract attention wherever it goes, and which is perfect for family adventures.
