2012 Maserati Grancabrio Sport Auto

Highlights

  • Three owners and 29,000 miles from new
  • Ferrari-derived V8
  • Ready to be enjoyed

The Appeal

With the weather improving and temperatures rising, our minds are turning to the best convertibles for the summer.

If, like us, you think that the idea of a V8 convertible GT with seats for four sounds good, then you’ll have a very short list. And with a Ferrari-derived V8, beautiful styling and an evocative badge, the Maserati GranCabrio Sport could be just the job.
This example is a stunner to look at and has seen only light use, with its last owner also having a vintage Bentley and a modern Rolls Royce to choose from.

Coming freshly serviced and with a full year’s clean MOT, it could be the perfect way to enjoy the better weather and, although it’s generally been on duty for transport to the golf club of late, it certainly has the legs for some long distance touring.
So if you want to transport four in style and with the wind in their hair, then get bidding now.

The History and Paperwork

  • Registered new 13 January 2012
  • Second owner acquired September 2012
  • Last owner, the third, took possession 2016
  • Was part of a collection that also included  vintage Bentley and a Rolls Royce Wraith
  • Over £3,600 spent in 2018 on full service and paint refresh to front wings and sills
  • Will come with fresh oil and filter change and MOT with no advisories
  • Owner’s manuals present; service book sadly missing
  • V5 present

The Interior

  • Cream leather
  • Maserati-embroidered headrests all round
  • Well equipped and everything working
The ability to seat four adults in comfort is rare in this segment of the market but the Grancabrio Sport has a very well-appointed cabin which, once you’re aboard, provides a snug environment for all the passengers.

All four seats have regularly been in use in this car and, aside from a little bolster wear on the driver’s seat, they all remain in very good condition, despite the light hue.
It’s suitably well equipped with all the refinements that you would expect including cruise control, air conditioning and front and rear parking sensors. All the toys are said to be in full working order, though a couple of the buttons are suffering from some stickiness to their surface.

Other signs of use include a repair to the driver’s door card where a slight tear of the leather has been painted in and the steering wheel leather has been retouched.
The boot, which comfortably has room for a set of golf clubs, is also clean and tidy, although has a few signs of the insertion and removal of said items.

Overall, the interior shows a little wear and tear but it remains a luxurious and comfortable place to spend time.

The Exterior

  • Striking red metallic paint
  • Burgundy soft top
  • Unmarked wheels
Looking drop-dead gorgeous in red with a burgundy roof, this Grancabrio Sport is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. The wheels appear to have been refurbished as there’s not a mark on them and the tyres all have good tread too, the rears having been replaced in 2018.
The last owner was keen to keep it in tip top condition and so had the sills and front wings resprayed in 2018 to deal with some stone chips. In certain lights this can make the doors look a slightly different shade but the seller advises that it generally doesn’t stand out when seen in the metal.

The Pinninfarina badge on the nearside wing also shows signs that it has been removed and refitted but you have to be up close to notice.
Since the attention to the paintwork, the car has also picked up a few blemishes: some stone chips near the badge on the nose, a slight scratch on the nearside rear wing and some light scrapes to the extremities of the mirrors.

That said, the roof is in very good order, being clean and free from any damage and underside did not attract the attention of the MOT tester.

In all, it’s a fine looking car with some age-related marks but still presents very well indeed.

The Mechanics

  • 4.7 litre Ferrari-derived V8
  • Six speed automatic transmission
  • Gorgeous soundtrack
Nestling far back in the engine bay is the Ferrari-derived V8, finished with red crackling. Having had the rocker cover gaskets replaced, there’s no traces of oil where there shouldn’t be and it’s looking stunning.

The seller reports that it behaves just as it should too, starting with no problem and providing strong acceleration. The brakes are reportedly more than up to the job and the gearchanges smooth, while there are no unusual noises, just the delicious exhaust note which, while not as loud as a Ferrari, is nevertheless suitably mellifluous.

This car is ready to be enjoyed.

Summary

A beautiful four seat convertible with a Ferrari-derived V8 that is a real head-turner.
