Highlights
- A very well cared for, two owner example with the first owner being Jaguar Cars
- In the ownership of the current enthusiast owner since 2013
- Complete with a full-service history and a fully loaded specification
The Appeal
The XKR was the high-performance derivative of the already popular and powerful X100 XK8, Jaguar’s much vaunted XJS successor. The original XKR joined the range in 1998, dialling up the already robust performance of the standard XK8 by fitting a huge Eaton supercharger to the AJ-V8 engine. When the X150 XK arrived in 2006, the XKR range-topper was retained. With the 2009 facelift came a new 5L V8 engine, still boasting a supercharger in XKR form. This pushed the power output up to an eye-widening 503bhp and the torque to a huge 461Ib-ft.
The first keeper of this car was Jaguar itself, probably for use as a senior management company car. As such this XKR is fully loaded with extras including the Speed Pack (body kit and top speed limiter delete) and Black Pack (black 20-inch wheels and extra black trim). The second owner has kept and cherished the car since 2013 giving it a fantastic provenance.

The Interior
- The Jaguar XKR cabin combines both a sporting and luxurious ambiance
- This example is finished predominantly in Warm Charcoal leather
- This is a well specified example with just about every refinement present
The X150’s cabin was a big leap forward from its X100 predecessor with a new range of finishes and accessories made available. The winning combination of sporting and luxury cues were still obvious, however, making it a very easy car to spend time in.
This example is predominantly trimmed in Warm Charcoal leather. The front seats are deeply bolstered for optimum support. The centre sections are perforated and arranged into horizontal padded panels. The bolsters are finished in smooth hide and twin needle stitching in contrasting red rounds off the look. The headrests feature embossed “R” emblems. Both front seats are fully electrically adjustable, heated and are complete with full memory functions. The condition is excellent, with just some very minor bolster wear on the driver’s side. The rear seats are identically trimmed and look unused. This could be that they are very much of the “occasional” variety, best used as additional luggage space when needed.
The dashboard is finished in stitched black leather with accents of sporting carbon weave to the fascia. The electronic dials are recessed into a deep hooded binnacle and sit behind a chunky leather multi-function steering wheel. This is fitted with gear change paddles and also offers an interface for the cruise control and audio systems. The central infotainment screen allows access to a range of functions including satellite navigation, climate control and the upgraded Bowers & Wilkins audio system.
Carpets, door cards and rear side panels are all in excellent shape and luxuriously finished with no faults or imperfections to report. The front carpets are currently protected with a set of Jaguar inscribed heavy duty carpet mats. The headlining is in the optional Alcantara finish in a complimentary dark hue. The boot is a good size and finished in hard wearing dark carpet. The under-floor area provides useful additional “out of sight” storage as well as a home for the tyre inflation kit.
The Exterior
- This example looks sublime in its bright Italian Racing Red hue
- This contrasts perfectly with the black 20-inch wheels of the Black Pack
- The Sports Pack contributes the enhanced spoilers and body kit to the exterior
The X150 was an evolution of the well-received X100 and featured a blatant nod to the earlier E-Type with its elliptical grill centred with the Jaguar badge. The car was marginally bigger than its earlier brethren but looked, somehow, more lithe and compact overall.
This bright Italian Racing Red livery suits the car’s sporting prowess very well indeed, making for a truly eye-catching example. The condition of the paintwork and bodywork is very good indeed. All panels exude a high shine and panel gaps are admirably tight and symmetrical. The only noted imperfection is some scratching to the nearside front spoiler (photographed).
The R badges adorn both front and rear and the bonnet features a pair of “Supercharged” inscribed ventilation louvres. The flanks feature black finished, Jaguar embossed mesh vents and toppers. At the back the quad, chromed tail pipes give clues to the awesome performance potential of this supercharged V8 supercar slayer. All cabin glass and light lenses appear original and undamaged.
The car rides on the 10-spoke, 20-inch split rimmed light alloy wheels of the Black Pack. Unsurprisingly, then, these are finished in black and present very well overall. The owner reports that they were refurbished during the Covid lockdown. These are shod with a staggered, but matching, set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres. These appear to retain a generous level of tread throughout.
The Mechanics
- The highlight of the Jaguar XKR is always going to be that sublime supercharged V8
- In this car it is the AJ-V8 Gen III, 5,000cc unit with fitted supercharger and intercooler
- Power is fed to the rear wheels via a six speed ZF 6HP28 automatic transmission
From 2009 the XKR was fitted with an all new 5L V8 in the shape of the AJ-V8 Gen III unit. This was fitted with a sixth generation TVS (Twin Vortices Series) supercharger combining with direct injection to churn out a shade over 500bhp. In this car this power unit paired with the Speed Pack meaning it is unencumbered by the “gentleman’s agreement” 155mph top speed limiter. Consequently, this car is capable of a 175mph top speed where conditions allow. The 0-60mph sprint is dispatched in around 4.6 seconds. What’s more, the supercharger and prodigious torque make for an instant pick up at any speed.
This car has been diligently maintained throughout its life and has benefitted from empathetic, Jaguar enthusiast ownership. The current owner has found the car to be faultlessly reliable and it has been used for many European road trips during his tenure. No known mechanical issues have been reported.
Summary
The appeal of the X150 XKR should be obvious to anyone with a penchant for hugely powerful and sophisticated GT cars. A curvy British GT car hiding a very powerful supercharged V8 under a long, curved bonnet is a great place to start, of course. Add into that already heady mix the appeal of our example’s sporting colourway and its sumptuously appointed leather interior and you have something very appealing indeed. The sublime, black finished, 20-inch Senta wheels only help to lend the car an extra dose of drama and muscular road presence.
The car’s Jaguar fleet provenance, excellent overall presentation and full-service history only serve as the icing on an already very tempting cake. Examples of this calibre are becoming increasingly hard to find so be sure not to miss out by bidding today.
