The Appeal

When Audi’s R8 burst onto the scene in 2006, it truly upset the supercar establishment.

With excellent performance, fine practicality and Audi’s legendary reliability, it was a bit of a no-brainer.
To mark their 10th win at Le Mans, this special edition was released. With just 100 units produced, it’s a special and rare car. Here it’s been very well kept, coming with an excellent service and MOT history, genuinely low mileage and some expensive options.

As a way into supercar ownership, it may just be perfect…

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in June 2012
  • 8 owners from new
  • Current owner since June 2022
  • Service history with 9x stamps, last service in December 2021
  • MOT to January 2023
  • Never failed an MOT
  • Just 29,799 miles, confirmed by MOT history
  • Private registration is being retained by the owner

The Interior

  • Black and red Nappa leather upholstery
  • Carbon trim
  • Audi Nav+ system
  • Hands-free Bluetooth connectivity
  • Bang & Olufsen premium sound system
  • Air conditioning, front and rear demisters
  • Heated, electrically operated seats
  • Electric windows and door mirrors
  • Parking sensors
As part of the package for the Le Mans special edition, the cabin of the R8 was treated to exclusive black and red Nappa leather upholstery with carbon trim. It’s a smart combination that suits the car’s sporting nature perfectly.
The leather itself is presented in very fine condition, with some light signs of wear, but nothing notable, and certainly no damage or tears. Likewise, the black carpets and co-ordinated black and red overmats appear to be in very good condition, with no signs we could see of damage or staining.
Looking at the dashboard and driving controls, everything seems to have been very well preserved. The dials, buttons and trim all look in excellent condition, with little in the way of wear. We particularly like the handsome gear-selector, sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel and the illuminated carbon-trimmed sills.
We’re assured by the owner that all of the cabin features work as they should, with no issues or foibles to note.

The Exterior

  • Silver paintwork
  • New carbon side blades (August 2022)
  • Original alloy wheels
  • Optional external carbon pack
Unlike many supercars, the R8 really suits more subtle colours, and the silver paintwork and contrasting carbon trim of this model look fantastic to our eyes.

The paintwork itself looks to be in very fine fettle, with no evidence of notable blemishes. There may be the odd minor mark or chip, as you’d expect from a 10 year old car, but overall it presents very well indeed.
Likewise the bodywork looks to be undamaged, with no signs of dents or corrosion. The trim elements, badging and light lenses are all present and correct and smartly presented, with no cracking or significant signs of wear we could discern.
This particular car was specified with the external carbon pack – a £3,500 option at the time of order. This adds various carbon trim elements, including the iconic side blades, the mirror covers and some trim in the engine bay. In August of this year, the owner tells us they had the carbon side blades renewed by Audi at a cost of almost £8,000.
The wheels are the original 19”, 10-spoke GT items, finished in a smart titanium colour. Clearly they’ve been kept in fine condition, as we couldn’t see any evidence of kerbing or noteworthy marks. They are shod in tyres that appear to have a nice level of tread.

The Mechanics

  • 4,163cc naturally aspirated V8
  • Optional 6-speed R-tronic automated manual
  • Nose-lift function
  • Quattro drivetrain and Audi Magnetic Ride (AMR)
That 4.2-litre V8 is widely acknowledged as one of the finest V8 power plants ever built. Reliable, charismatic and offering a very usable 424bhp, it’s the perfect companion whether you’re cruising along or enjoying your favourite country road.

The engine has a wide spread of torque through the rev range and charges from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and, where appropriate, can reach a heady 187 mph.
When you look under the engine cover, the bay itself is very clean and tidy, with no evidence of leaks. All of the optional carbon trim in the bay is present, and is in very nice condition.
In this car it’s twinned with the optional 6-speed R-tronic transmission, which can waft along in automatic mode but also offers the engagement of a manual with the paddle shift function.
The drivetrain is topped off with Audi’s iconic Quattro all-wheel drive and, in the Le Mans special edition, the AMR system which offers a fabulous combination of supple ride and razor-sharp control.
We’re told by the vendor that the car drives exceptionally well with brilliant handling and a fantastic exhaust note. They report that there are no leaks, smoke or mechanical problems that they are aware of.

Summary

Long known as the “thinking man’s supercar”, the R8 is a brilliant proposition for anyone that wants to be able to use their supercar regularly – even daily.

It offers a level of reliability and usability that most rivals cannot compete with.
With many factory options and enhancements, this rare Le Mans special edition would be a brilliant way to put a V8 supercar on your driveway.

Whether you want something special for weekend drives, or fancy running a very unique daily, this low mileage gem offers an excellent solution.
