The Appeal
Back in the early 2000s, a famed Italian motorcycle band rose form the ashes. Benelli was historically a rival to Ducati, and the vision behind its resurgence was to take on the iconic sports bike brand once again, initially with the single Tornado model line.
The Benelli made its debut in 2003, using triple-cylinder engines similar to those found in Triumph bikes of the era, all badged Tre and available with engine capacities of 900cc and 1,130cc. There were three body styles – Sportster, Naked (TNT) and Sport Adventure ‘Tre-K’.
This one is a Naked – pared back and and stripped as far as possible, to exploit the performance by virtue of weight savings.
Ultimately, it was never a great sales success and is very rare, especially in the UK. But as an exotic, technologically fascinating and temptingly affordable modern classic, the Tre 1130 Triple is an appealing prospect, with a quoted 140bhp and scintillating performance, along with impressive handling, striking looks and a high-quality finish. Moreover, it one of the most responsive-handling bikes of its day.
It’s a desirable and unusual machine, notable not only for its rarity but also its ability to stand out from the crowd.
The vendor, a committed motorcycle enthusiast, has owned the Benelli for two-and-a-half years and has thoroughly enjoyed it, maintaining it himself and using it for summer rides, but he’s now looking to swap it for a more touring-oriented bike that will allow him and his girlfriend to enjoy motorcycling together, rendering it surplus to requirements.
It’s a fabulous thing, with performance that is guaranteed to take your breath away.
