The Appeal
It was a sad day when Saab left the automotive space, this 9-5 Aero must be one of the last ones to roll off the line. Finished in an excellent specification this 12 year old Saab still feels and looks like a new car.
If you are looking for something a bit different for your commute or safety for your family, then this is the perfect car for you. Even better, it can return an acclaimed 50mpg as well!

The History and Paperwork
- Originally sold by Oxford Saab, this 9-5 has lived the usual life of a modern saloon
- It would stay in the Oxford area, returning to that dealership for its annual service, until around 2014
- It would appear that the first owner knew how to spec a car, this one comes with TVs in the rear, CIS driving modes, an AWD system, and navigation
- The full specification can be found within the photo gallery
- It was then bought by the second owner who would service it independently
- The current owner would acquire it in March of this year and would subsequently become the third owner
- Since they have owned it quite a bit of serviceable mechanical parts have been changed
- For example, the cambelt & water pump have been changed, the diff fluid has been seen too, along with a full service
- It is now your time to add to this car’s history, all of the modern creature comforts can be found within this brilliantly designed saloon
- MOT'd with proof of all advisories being taken care of
The front reg plate will be with the car at the time of the sale. The seller removed it just to clean the car.
The Interior
- Leather & heated sports seats
- Heads-up display
- Full of modern tech
- Presented well
- Nice and comfortable
Most modern interiors are filled to the rafters with tech and driver aids to make those boring motorway miles just fly by. The interior of this Saab is no different, with some fun toys to keep you entertained even on the longest journey.
Firstly, the optional sports seats that have been fitted to this Saab are not only heated, but they are also electrically operated. They are also presented in good condition, there is some creasing/slight sagging to the driver’s base side bolster, but you try and find a modern car that doesn’t have this. These seats will cradle you nicely as you plug through the miles. The rear bench seat is also in good condition, with a lot of toys to keep your rear passengers happy.
If we move onto the tech section of the interior, we are met with a lot of it. Starting in the rear there are the twin TVs that flip out from the front seat, the associated media controls appear to be nestled neatly in the rear of the central armrest.
The front cabin is also filled with tech. On the steering wheel, you will find the controls for the cruise control, telephone operations, and volume controls. Just behind there are the analogue dials displaying all the important details like your boost pressure. You will also find a little nod to Saabs aviation department with the linear speedo, much like a plane’s altimeter. Across from these two areas you’ll find the large colour screen and driving mode selector.
If you wish to feel even more like a fighter jet, simply press the Night Panel button and it will only illuminate the important dials.
Within the boot, you will find the space saver spare wheel and the original toolkit. The space for luggage is large enough for you to pack up and go away for a holiday.
Overall, the interior is presented in lovely condition. It is just waiting for you to get behind the wheel now.
The Exterior
- Finished in Diamond Silver
- Contemporary styling
- Nicely presented
This Saab maybe 12 years old now, but some people could easily mistake it for a new car. It may even confuse some people into thinking that Saab have started producing cars again. This example is presented in a very subtle exterior specification, but that’s what Saabs are all about.
The Diamond Silver paint does look very nice in the sunlight, and you can see from the photos that the quality is great. It still returns a lovely reflection in the summer sun. Another bonus with a silver car is that it can mask some marks that would be obvious on a black or white car.
As the car has covered a few miles there are a few areas on the exterior that aren’t quite like new.
These can be found in the form of a slight scuff on the left-hand portion of the lower front bumper and some small curb marks on the left-hand front alloy. For a car of this age, that isn’t too bad other examples will probably present with even more marks than this.

The rest of the exterior elements are presented very well indeed. You could quite easily park this outside the poshest of areas and no one would bat an eyelid. It is a wonderful looking, understated car that may garner a bit of attention amongst those who love these Swedish legends.
The Mechanics
- Powerful turbo diesel engine
- Lovely six-speed manual gearbox
- Full independent service history
- Cambelt & water pump changed recently
- AWD system
Fitted with a lovely 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine this Saab will power you down the road nicely. The engine is said to put close to 200bhp, which is more than enough for a spirited drive every so often, and if you switch it to sport mode then it will become even more engaging to drive. To further enhance the driving pleasure a 6-speed manual is fitted, perfect for cruising down the motorway, but also well adapted should you wish to take the back roads for a bit more of a fun drive.
As we approach autumn the roads will start to become slightly worse, thanks to a combination of British weather and preventative salt spreading. Thanks to the AWD this Saab should keep you firmly planted on the tarmac wherever you are.
You can see from the service history that this example has been well looked after throughout its life. The current owner has also spent time and money to make sure that a full service is completed, a new cambelt is fitted, the diff is serviced, and a new water pump is fitted. They have also rectified the oil leak advisory from the last MOT.
This should be an excellent car mechanically, it is powerful, well serviced, and can still return a good MPG figure.
Summary
This is actually a fairly rare car, there are more Ferrari 458’s on the road than there are Saab 9-5 Aeros. there are only said to be 5 on the UK roads in this specification, so why not bag yourself a rare and comfortable car.
Saab no longer makes cars, and with this being one of the last, you probably won’t find another like this.
