The Appeal

Few vehicles can boast such enduring appeal as the original Land Rover Defender which has been the mainstay of farm yards and Royal Mewses alike for decades.
This 2010 long wheelbase Defender has clearly been cherished throughout its life, reportedly always being put away indoors and treated with the utmost care while in occasional use. It remains a very smart example of one of the most iconic vehicles in the history of motorised transportation.

The History and Paperwork

  • 3 owners from new
  • The vendor acquired it from a Land Rover enthusiast who had used the car sparingly
  • MOT valid until November 2023
  • V5C present
  • Haynes Owners Workshop manual
  • Original vehicle handbook and warranty documents
  • Collection of old MOT certificates
  • Invoices for remapping work and past servicing
  • Will be sold with 12 months fresh MOT on purchase
  • £290 per annum road tax

The Interior

  • Very good overall condition
  • Full carpeting plus rubber mats fitted
  • Kenwood infotainment system
  • All doors have tamper proof door hinges and special Guardian double locks fitted
  • Dynamat soundproofing throughout
  • Factory remote alarm system
  • Exmoor canvass front seat covers
  • Central cubby box.
By design, Land Rover Defenders have utilitarian, spartan interiors that are built to withstand a great deal of punishment. Having been used so little, this Defender’s interior hasn’t really been put to the test and everything remains in very good overall condition.
The grey cloth seats present really well with very little wear. The car also benefits from the addition of additional folding forward-facing seats in the loading area which can be deployed or tidied away as necessary. The basic headlining throughout is clean and well supported and the hard wearing black rubber floor mats show few signs of heavy foot traffic.
The dashboard looks to be in good shape and, with the exception of a couple of stress cracks appearing on the passenger-side grab handle, there is nothing to report. The dash also houses a Kenwood stereo system which the vendor informs us functions very well.
The vendor informs us that the car is soundproofed with Dynamite matting, which helps to keep noise levels to a minimum.

The Exterior

  • Smart silver paintwork
  • Sawtooth alloy wheels
  • Fire and Ice side steps
  • Steering and light guards
  • LED headlights and additional Cibie spot lamps
  • Rear bumper bars
  • LR alloy steering guard fitted
  • Full set of mudflaps
  • Nomad front Bumper with DLR
  • Cooper STT Pro tyres fitted
  • Removable rear tow bar
As you would expect from a vehicle that presents so well on the inside, this Land Rover has very good bodywork and smart paint, with very few blemishes.
The aluminium alloy panels are remarkably straight and we were unable to see any electrolytic corrosion creeping through. It is adorned in an attractive coat of silver paint which remains bright and well-adhered all over the car. There is a small scuff on the spare wheel cover but little else to report around the remainder of the car. Underneath, there is some light surface rust on the axles but the vendor informs us that the chassis is in great shape and so far as we could see everything looked to be in good order.
It sits upon Sawtooth alloy wheels which look to be in excellent shape and the aggressive off-road tyres with their tall sidewalls have a good deal of tread remaining. Lighting comes courtesy of upgraded LED headlights and these are aided by a set of Cibie spot lamps. The vendor tells us that the original lights are included with the car. For easier access, steps are also fitted to the side of the Land Rover and really add to the off-road appearance, as do the rear bumper bars.

The Mechanics

  • 2.4-litre 'Puma' diesel engine - considered by many to be superior over the later 2.2.
  • Base map performance and Alisport intercooler upgrade dramatically improves real world performance, holding high gears and fuel economy
  • Maintained by marque specialists
The vendor informs us that this Land Rover has always been maintained and serviced by specialists and performs well as a result. This example also benefits from the added performance of an engine remap and intercooler installation.
It starts, runs and drives perfectly, selecting gears smoothly and braking strongly as you would expect of a well maintained car with so few miles covered.

Summary

This is a particularly smart example of the revered Land Rover Defender. With the added benefit of increased performance and ample seating, this is an exceedingly versatile vehicle that has been very well looked after in the past.
If you’re thinking of adding a Defender to your driveway, then this is certainly a worthy candidate.
