Highlights
- Low mileage example
- High specification Portfolio edition
- Beefy and desirable 5.0 V8
The Appeal
For some people, diesel will never hold enough appeal, whatever the price of fuel. If that statement rings true with you, then you’re the target buyer for the likes of the handsome XF V8. Sales figures for this variant were low here in the UK, but soared in the US where V8s are still bread-and-butter engines in luxury saloons. An excellent engine paired to a refined and comfortable chassis, makes for a splendid experience with the windows down when you want to hear some burbling V8, or the windows up when you just want some quiet cruising in sheer opulence.
The example presented here remains in excellent condition thanks to careful and loving ownership which a vehicle like this is almost always bound to have. Low mileage on the dash backs this up even further, with only 29,101 miles at present which equates to a staggeringly low 2,200 miles a year or thereabouts. The Portfolio specification includes all manner of cosseting kit that makes it the choice to have among the rest.

The Mechanics
- 5.0 V8 petrol engine, reportedly remaining in great mechanical health with no unwelcome noises or hesitation on start-up, producing a healthy and deep grumble we all love from from any British V8
- 6-speed automatic transmission remains in good mechanical condition also, with no odd hesitation between gears or whining noticed under load, it remains a smooth and trouble-free ride
- Suspension is notably softer than the more hardcore XFR, which makes for a comfortable ride more suited to those who want the suppleness as well as strong performance
- Braking is reported to remain excellent with no influence on steering direction under heavy application. A must have when you’ve got that behemoth up front!
- Rear-wheel drive configuration providing for an engaging and exciting driving experience when the moment calls for it
- A somewhat eye-watering 23 MPG average achievable from the 5.0 V8, this car certainly isn’t for those who want to keep a watchful eye over their fuel consumption
- Paperwork from 2022 indicate that the TPMS module as well as the water pump have been replaced under warranty
Summary
If you’re looking for something quick, opulent and full of kit, the Portfolio may just be the thing for you. Due to the low sales numbers in the UK, these are scarce to come by and are often hidden away only to be driven when the occasion calls for it, so there’s certainly an opportunity for these to become collectors items in the future.
A proper wolf in sheep's clothing, don’t let this loved example slip under your radar!
