2010 Jaguar XF Portfolio V8

Highlights

  • Low mileage example
  • High specification Portfolio edition
  • Beefy and desirable 5.0 V8

The Appeal

For some people, diesel will never hold enough appeal, whatever the price of fuel. If that statement rings true with you, then you’re the target buyer for the likes of the handsome XF V8. Sales figures for this variant were low here in the UK, but soared in the US where V8s are still bread-and-butter engines in luxury saloons. An excellent engine paired to a refined and comfortable chassis, makes for a splendid experience with the windows down when you want to hear some burbling V8, or the windows up when you just want some quiet cruising in sheer opulence.
The example presented here remains in excellent condition thanks to careful and loving ownership which a vehicle like this is almost always bound to have. Low mileage on the dash backs this up even further, with only 29,101 miles at present which equates to a staggeringly low 2,200 miles a year or thereabouts. The Portfolio specification includes all manner of cosseting kit that makes it the choice to have among the rest.

  • Ivory soft grain leather upholstery, remaining in excellent condition with very few signs of age

  • Woodgrain interior trim presented in excellent condition with a high level of shine, no delamination present ad some outstanding  grain definition throughout the trim
  • Both front seats have lovely leatherwork with only gentle creasing on the high-traffic areas, no damage or rips noticed, with intact stitching throughout. The heating and cooling functionality works as it should, as does the electronic base
  • Heated leather steering wheel in wonderful condition with no signs of wear or damage, and all of the stitching in good order
  • Dashboard remains functional as you would expect with no unwelcome warning lights upon start-up
  • Centre console switchgear shows almost no signs of use with excellent symbol visibility, and the infotainment display appears to be free from any damage
  • Rear seats appear almost unused, with virtually no signs of age or creasing anywhere to be seen
  • Alston headliner in lovely shape, a soft and luxurious fabric which was a Portfolio specific trim option
  • Original Jaguar carpets in excellent condition with very little signs of wear present
  • All four door cards beautifully preserved with lovely leatherwork and seemingly untouched wooden trim
  • Boot compartment in handsome shape, with well maintained carpet lining all-round

The Exterior

  • Vapour Grey metallic paintwork
  • Optional 20” Selina wheels
  • At the front, paintwork appears in lovely condition with only minor stone chips as to be expected of any vehicle
  • Brightwork grill and lower bumper trim remains in handsome condition with a high level of shine and no noticeable tarnishing
  • Both headlights appear very well kept however there is a very minor hairline crack in the front drivers side headlamp (so small it doesn't really show in the photos - suspected from a stone chip)
  • Around the side of the vehicle, bodywork appears straight and true with no noticeable dings, and good panel gaps across the board
  • All four Selina wheels are well presented with only a small curb rash spotted on one of the alloys, and the brightwork portions appear well kept with only light pitting noticed
  • Brightwork trim around the windows all looks to be in good condition, as do all of the rubber weather seals with no deterioration observed
  • At the rear, everything looks to be in good order with lovely paintwork condition and no damage present to the rear bumper or the boot lid
  • Both rear lights are free from damage and retain excellent clarity and colour saturation
  • Original badges and model designations present, as well as the “V8” badge to let other road users know they’re in the presence of something quite special
  • Quad exhaust tips finish off the rear end with an aggressive yet subtle look - the symmetry provided by the exhaust provides for pleasant viewing… Good thing too, as most people will have no choice but to look at the rear thanks to the glorious V8 powerhouse!

The Mechanics

  • 5.0 V8 petrol engine, reportedly remaining in great mechanical health with no unwelcome noises or hesitation on start-up, producing a healthy and deep grumble we all love from from any British V8
  • 6-speed automatic transmission remains in good mechanical condition also, with no odd hesitation between gears or whining noticed under load, it remains a smooth and trouble-free ride
  • Suspension is notably softer than the more hardcore XFR, which makes for a comfortable ride more suited to those who want the suppleness as well as strong performance
  • Braking is reported to remain excellent with no influence on steering direction under heavy application. A must have when you’ve got that behemoth up front!
  • Rear-wheel drive configuration providing for an engaging and exciting driving experience when the moment calls for it
  • A somewhat eye-watering 23 MPG average achievable from the 5.0 V8, this car certainly isn’t for those who want to keep a watchful eye over their fuel consumption
  • Paperwork from 2022 indicate that the TPMS module as well as the water pump have been replaced under warranty

Summary

If you’re looking for something quick, opulent and full of kit, the Portfolio may just be the thing for you. Due to the low sales numbers in the UK, these are scarce to come by and are often hidden away only to be driven when the occasion calls for it, so there’s certainly an opportunity for these to become collectors items in the future.
A proper wolf in sheep's clothing, don’t let this loved example slip under your radar!
