The Appeal
If you’re going to trump Porsche’s 911, you better be ready for some sleepless nights because that is a tall mountain to climb. Audi’s engineers clearly endured exactly that because the result was the R8, a car equal to its Stuttgart rival.
That the R8 was based on the Lamborghini Gallardo gave those Audi apparatchiks a serious head start. But they created something quite different, a car that blended the reassuring surefootedness of its Quattro forebears with the quality of an Audi and the performance of a proper thoroughbred. All in a car that was as reliable and easy to live with as the Porsche.
So, then, the R8 makes a sound and interesting alternative to the more common 911. If you want one, then you want a car with low mileage and impeccable maintenance, just like this one. It is a 420bhp 4.2 FSI V8 Spyder that has covered less than 31,000 miles in the hands of a mere trio of keepers. It has always been serviced by Audi main dealers, with some extra work by marque specialists as required. The last service was 2,000 miles ago.
This viscerally quick supercar is ready for warmer weather. It is supplied with a large history file, advisory-free MOT, and great condition inside and out.

Inside, the high-quality cabin shows few, if any, signs of wear - if we look closely, there is some light creasing and sheen to the driver’s seat, but it is barely noticeable. The car is well appointed with an electric roof, navigation system, electric seats and a wind break with no reported electrical issues.

- Vendor reports that the car is now due a service
- No mechanical or running gear advisories on last MOT
- Two keys
Key to the R8’s appeal is its amidships engine layout and Quattro drivetrain, a surefooted, well balanced combination that enables that peach of an engine to put the power down with alacrity. And what an engine it is - engineered by Audi and assembled with the firm’s usual attention to detail and durability, it is a light, sweet-revving unit that is good for 420bhp. 60mph arrives from a standstill in less time than it takes to read this sentence.
With all that technology under its chiselled bodywork, you want the reassurance of excellent maintenance when you buy one of these cars. This one has exactly that. It has been regularly maintained by Audi to 28,800 miles - it is now on 30,800 miles - with additional minor work undertaken by specialists as required. There is a lot of history and it is available to view in the photos.
The vendor has advised that the car is now due a service based on time rather than mileage. He tells us that the car starts, runs, drives, and stops exactly as it should, with no known faults.
