2009 Volkswagen T2 ‘Brazilian Bay’ 8 seater Danbury conversion

Highlights

  • Unexpectedly back on the market as the winning bidder was unable to complete
  • Attractive T2 in desirable colour combination
  • Nice stance on chromed Fuchs-style alloy wheels
  • Long MOT to June 2024
  • Low mileage, one owner van with 8-seat versatility
  • Could be used as is or basis for a bespoke camper

The Appeal

When Volkswagen T2 production continued in Brazil a group of enterprising UK specialists began importing them and converting them for eager customers. Known as Brazilian Bays, these later models provide a more modern driving experience but with the original classic styling.
Many were converted by renowned camper specialist Danbury. This is one of them, but rather than receiving the camper van treatment it was lightly modified as an eight-seater Kombi van with bespoke trim.
Finished in two-tone, seaside-evoking colours and sitting on pretty chromed Fuchs-style alloys, this very practical van could be used as is or developed into a bespoke camper. With a long MOT and, we are told, full service history, this is a great opportunity to buy an unusual family bus or clean-sheet camper project.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered with DVLA on 5th August 2009
  • Just one owner since first UK registered
  • The seller states that the van has full service history
  • Long MOT to 11th June 2024 with no advisories
  • Clean sheet MOT test passes since 2019
  • Bi-fuel model that will run on petrol or ethanol

The Interior

  • Well preserved interior that continues the two-tone theme of the exterior
  • Eight seats in three rows in very good condition with no visible scuffs or tears
  • Side trims and door trims follow the colour scheme and are well kept
  • Front headrests fitted
  • CSP aluminium gear lever
  • Dashboard in good condition with no cracks or marks and good, clear switchgear
  • JVC speakers with Pioneer stereo
  • Good front door cards with clean, smart fittings
  • Some wear visible on the two spoke plastic steering wheel
  • Rear seats arranged over two benches with three seats per bench
  • Seatbelts fitted for all seats
  • Carpet trim around base of front seats is peeling from the glue backing in the corners
  • Good condition blue vinyl floor in the main cabin and rubber mats in the front
  • Some damp staining on the front cabin headlining
  • Volkswagen branded protective rear load mat
  • Spare wheel cover

The Exterior

  • Two-tone blue and white bodywork in generally good and presentable condition
  • Sits smartly on chromed Fuchs-style alloys with Porsche centre caps
  • Alloy wheels are generally well kept but with some tarnishing visible
  • There are some areas of early deterioration perhaps worthy of preventative maintenance but not unsightly
  • Small shallow dent on the nearside front corner
  • Patches of corrosion on both nearside arches, offside rear arch, sill below nearside rear door and base of rear door aperture
  • Small bubble of rust under the rear window and rear offside vent trim
  • Both front headlamp chrome bezels are lightly tarnished
  • Chrome front and rear bumpers in good condition with bright shine
  • Front nearside indicator lens cracked and offside rear light cracked
  • Equipped with a tow hitch and electrics
  • Underside appears very presentable with no significant issues to note and no structural advisories on any of the recent MOTs

The Mechanics

  • Bi-Fuels model that is equipped to run on petrol or ethanol
  • EA111 1,390cc Volkswagen engine developing 78bhp
  • 4spd manual
  • The seller states that the van has full service history
  • At the time of writing unfortunately we did not have sight of the history but we understand it is available

Summary

Few vehicles have lasted as long and likely elicited quite as many smiles as the humble Volkswagen T2 van.
Most Brazilian Bays have become campers so it is unusual to find one offering the 8-seater practicality of this example with its lovely colour scheme. Just one owner from new, full service history and long MOT surely means this great van ticks many points on your buyer checklist.
