The Jaguar XJ cars can trace their roots all the way back to 1968 when it was introduced to the world as the flagship model for the Jaguar brand. Over the decades the XJ evolved with the times all whilst maintaining a design that always harked back to the original Series 1 from 1968.

In 1994 Jaguar introduced the all new XJ or the X300. It was the model that would carry on the long lineage of the XJ name and it was also when the world would be graced by the first XJR models. They were the companies first road car manufactured with a supercharger and it helped to bring Jaguar back into the fight against the likes of Germany's best performance luxury cars.

The XJ would change again in 1997 with the model switching from its V6 and V12 engines to a new V8 engine block. In 2003 the motoring world got a newly designed and re-engineered XJ that brought with it an all aluminium body and chassis to help save on weight, a new V8 engine and an overall styling tweak.

This new XJ was subtly different to its previous counterpart but still retained the classic lines that had been integral to the design since the 1960s. The XJR model still came supercharged but it was now attached to the new 4.2 litre V8 engine that continued the sporting prowess of the badge.

Following a total redesign in 2010 the new XJ model continued to be produced for a further nine years before Jaguar announced that the next XJ model would be an all-electric affair. Sadly the company decided to shelve the next XJ project and it brought the run of the flagship Jaguar car to a sad end in 2021.

The current owner purchased the XJR in December 2019 from Arun Jaguar in Sussex before taking delivery of the vehicle in January 2020. Under their two years of ownership the XJR has been very well maintained and has undergone a large amount of work to bring it back to the excellent condition it is in today.

All the work carried out on the car during the current ownership has been done by certified Jaguar service teams at the Jaguar main dealership in Cheltenham.

The XJR has had extensive work completed on it during the current ownership including some bodywork repair and respray, a new drive belt and tensioner, new Pirelli P1 tyres all round in December 2021 and a large amount of work to fix and replace rear tie rod ends and front bushes.

Sadly the current owner is now looking at managing their inventory so the XJR is seeking a new home.

This XJR comes with an extensive amount of paperwork, especially from the two years of current ownership. Included in this recent paperwork are invoices and receipts for much of the work that has been completed on the car over the last two years. 

This notably includes a very large invoice for the work carried out on the rear suspension that included the removal of the rear subframe to replace rear tie rod ends as well as front bushes. This work also included replacement rear brake hoses and a replacement rear brake disc. 

Alongside this invoice there are other notable items for the replacement Pirelli P1 tyres all round in December 2021, a new alloy wheel replacement, the new tensioner and drive belt in 2020 as well as the invoices for the bodywork repair and resprays that were carried out in the same year. 

Also included in the paperwork are several invoices for more regular services that have been carried out over the current ownership. The paperwork also comes with a full MOT history including the latest certificate, a recent HPi check and the number plate authorisation certificate to show the cars change of plate in December 2021. 

As well as this extensive collection of paperwork for the current ownership there are some invoices and receipts from work and servicing carried out on the car during some of its previous ownerships. 

The XJR also comes with all the original sales and owners manuals, from the service portfolio to the navigation system information.

The inside of the XJR is pure luxury, it oozes the charm and refinement that Jaguar always pulls off so well. Overall the condition of the interior is excellent and it really adds to the feeling of being in a clean and luxurious space.

The dashboard leather is in excellent condition with no marks, damage or fading. The dashboard inlay was altered from the aluminium that the car came with to a wonderful walnut burr panelling that just really lifts the whole interior.

Its rich and shiny finish gives a lovely throw back to the heritage of the XJ model. All the buttons and switches are present and function as intended including the heated and ventilated seats and the four zone automatic air conditioning.

The leather seats in the XJR are all in excellent condition with no rips, tears or marks. The front seats have some creases and signs of use but this has just given the seats that wonderful lived in leather look and feel.

All the carpeting and floors are clean and tidy showing very minimal wear all round. Overall the interior of the XJR draws you in and offers a wonderfully comfortable and executive feel. It has all the modern touches too makes long journeys a dream, all while retaining that luxury style and charm that Jaguar are famous for.

The outside of the XJR is also in excellent condition. The work to the bodywork and paint has clearly been completed to a very high standard. The deep metallic black paintwork looks in remarkable condition for its ages and the notorious nature of black cars. It shows very minimal wear or damage save for a small set of marks on the front drivers side of the bonnet.

However, they are the only real area of damage and it does not detract from the overall impact and condition of the car. All the panels are straight and true with no dents or damage, thanks in part to the private, undercover storage that the vehicle has been kept in.

Likewise all the alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no curbing or damage.  Overall this XJR looks fantastic, it has a real presence and the rich black paintwork makes the car look imposing and ready for business.

The chrome and brushed aluminium accents across the exterior are all in excellent condition and look fantastic set against that black bodywork.

Lifting that long sweeping bonnet of the XJR reveals a very clean and tidy engine bay, there's not much on display sadly thanks to the plastic panelling save for the hint of the supercharger sticking out of the top.

However, the XJR is about doing rather than showing and it delivers that exceptionally well. The 4.2 litre V8 rumbles to life easily and you can hear it very subtly idling away thanks to the incredible sound deadening in the XJR.

It really delivers on those core attributes that make driving a Jaguar such a pleasure. It’s comfortable and luxurious, it doesn’t bark or shout wildly and it just feels like the most stylish way to travel fast. And travel fast it does!

The power delivery from the supercharged V8 is almost instantaneous and it propels the XJR forward with an ever enjoyable rush of speed. The ride is smooth and nearly silent with gear changes delivered silkily by the automotive gearbox.

This XJR feels like a real mile eater that gives the driver a very fast performance car but without the deafening noise and harsh ride that often come with it.

This XJR represents a fantastic opportunity for buyers to get their hands on very well maintained, low mileage examples of these luxury performance cars. The 2009 XJR represented the last of the original XJ body design that managed to look both modern and stylish whilst maintaining the link to its original forebears.

Inside the XJR is everything you could want from a luxury British marque and all with modern conveniences that makes the lap of luxury that little bit sweeter.
