The Appeal
Germany has the Beetle, Britain has the Mini, America has the Mustang and India has the Ambassador. For nearly 60 years, strong sales made Hindustan’s sturdy saloon a familiar sight on India’s roads. Its reliability made it the favoured choice of the middle classes, the Indian Government officials and taxi drivers.
The Ambassador Grand of 2003 was a significant overhaul of the 55 year old design which was in-fact an Indian built Morris Oxford, introducing new engines, more luxury, improved technology and better suspension. This Ambassador Grand uses the rugged Isuzu 1800cc 75bhp fuel injected engine and retains the colour coded bumpers and other features that make these later models so distinctive.
Unusually for a vehicle known for its usability and durability, it appears to be an exceptionally low mileage example - just 2,838 miles displayed. It is certainly well kept inside and out.
Imported here early last year, it carries a long, advisory-free MOT to June 2025. Its white colour scheme and neat details like the rear privacy curtains present interesting commercial opportunities as a wedding car. Or simply enjoy one of the most distinctive and rugged cars on the road. Whichever you choose, this would make a very interesting purchase.
