The Appeal
Rolls-Royce’s design and engineering team sets its sights very high for its new convertible. So high, in fact, that the competition they assessed wasn’t other cars, it was yachts. The new car would channel the style of luxury boats whilst delivering a similarly cossetting and sumptuous experience.
Looking at this smart Woodland Green Phantom Drophead Coupe you clearly sense that they succeeded. The lines echo sleek motorboats while the interior, with its retro rear-hinged doors, evokes sun-dappled luxury lounging.
Buying a new Phantom Drophead Coupe would have required close to half a million pounds. Often these cars are rarely used. Not so this one, which has been used and enjoyed. Yet the condition barely reflects it. It does mean that it has been serviced and maintained very well, including recent attention by specialist Silverlady of Brentwood.
Equipped with an advisory-free MOT to March 2025, this is a chance to acquire one of motoring’s greatest open top land yachts.

When you’re spending half a million pounds on a motor car you get the scope to make your purchase your own. Compared to the more common blue paints and cream interiors, it is refreshing to find this example which is attractively finished in Woodland Green metallic with a grey leather interior. Piano black veneers also replace the more usual walnut and elm woods.
Across the interior and exterior it is a well kept car with few signs of its age or mileage. That is likely a reflection of the quality of the fittings and the care of its few owners. A smart dark green fabric roof completes the sense of a discreet and neatly understated Phantom.
The Mechanics
- 6,749cc V12 hand-built Rolls-Royce engine
- 6spd automatic gearbox with column shift
- Vendor advises full service history
- No mechanical advisories on recent MOT test
- Recent service by marque specialist
Like the classic Rolls-Royces it recalls and the yachts it apes, the Phantom Drophead Coupe provides ultra-smooth propulsion and ride. That is thanks to its V12 engine - in classic 6.75L displacement - and highly sophisticated suspension. The 6spd gearbox, which is designed to change up and down seamlessly, also plays its part.
This car has been enjoyed and that use is backed by full service history. It has recently been serviced by well regarded specialist Silverlady of Brentwood, Essex. Along with the lengthy MOT it reaches the buyer in very good mechanical health with no known issues.
