THE APPEAL
For many, the Porsche 911, whichever version, was probably a bedroom poster car at some point in their lives. Rightly so, the 911 design is iconic; it looks incredible from any angle and has the performance and handling to satisfy the racing driver urges within us; it's easy to see just why the 911 is so desirable.
This 2008 911 (997) model is something of a rarity; it is the sought-after Targa 4S version which gives a similar experience to a convertible with the bonus of being a hard top.
The Targa is also the only 911 model where the rear window opens. This lovely example includes a full service history, two keys, and owner’s manuals. In addition, it has had the all-important bore score check, which was reported to be clear from scoring, making it a superb contender for anyone looking for that special 911.

Inside the Porsche, the smooth black leather electric and heated seats have a perforated centre and smooth outer, which are in excellent condition with minimal signs of any wear. The rear seats are also in good condition and don’t appear to have had much use. There are a couple of small nicks at the top of the rear seat, which are only seen when looking from behind. The door cards are in excellent condition and fitted with Bose speakers, a nice addition to the 911.
The dashboard is also finished in black leather and free from any noticeable scuffs or damage. The instruments are reported to work correctly, with no warning lights displayed when the engine is running, and the odometer shows a reading of 71,107 miles. The centre console houses the factory-fitted satellite navigation system and climate control, which are said to function correctly. The switchgear and buttons are in excellent condition with no signs of heavy wear. There are a couple of buttons to take note of; one is the shock absorber button which stiffens up the suspension, and the other is the exhaust button which turns it from an already amazing-sounding engine to an even more amazing one via the switchable exhaust.
The carpets are nice and clean with no signs of excessive wear, and there is a set of Porsche mats fitted which are also n good order. Being the Targa 4S, the roof is panoramic and opens and closes as it should.
THE EXTERIOR
- Arctic Silver Metallic
- Presented extremely well
- 19” Lobster-claw alloy wheels
- Rear parking sensors
One of the most iconic shaped cars of all time! The Porsche 911 has never moved too far away from its roots regarding styling. You could place any silhouette of a 911 if front of most people, and they would instantly know it's a Porsche.
The 997 styling is no exception, and making this 911 even more special is the opening rear window and panoramic roof. Looking around the car, there are no noticeable dings or dents to mention, and the panel gaps all appear to align just as Porsche intended.
The headlights and rear lights are in excellent condition, with no splits or cracks to the lenses. The glass in the car all looks to be in good order, with no scratches or chips to the windscreen.
Fitted with 19” lobster claw alloy wheels, these are in excellent condition with no corrosion to the faces. They have been equipped with a matching set of Yokohama tyres which have a good amount of tread remaining.
THE MECHANICS
- 3.8 litre flat-six
- Bore score checked
- Switchable sports exhaust
- Switchable sports suspension
- ALL-wheel drive
The 997 Targa 4S benefited from the more powerful 3.8 litre flat-six engine as standard. Like the rest of the flat-six range, it performs exceptionally well, producing 350bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque capable of propelling the 911 from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 179mph.
The Porsche has been well maintained by receiving regular services. There are seven stamps in the service book carried out at the appropriate intervals, which is key to a healthy life with a 911 and the last carried out in November 2021 at 70,401 miles. The car has also been bore score checked and reported by the vendor to be free from any scoring.
The car starts up with no hesitation and no untoward noises. On the road, the car pulls strongly through the gears and has a smooth change via the five-speed Tiptronic gearbox, or, for more spirited driving, the gears and be selected from the steering wheel buttons.
Stopping the Targa 4S is done via drilled discs to the front and rear; these look in good condition and bring the car to a halt in a straight line with no juddering through the pedal.
SUMMARY
The 997 is an amazing car to drive and own; it doesn’t disappoint in the looks or performance department. Being the Targa 4S, it is more desirable and making it a superb choice for any 911 fan.
