The Appeal

There are other ‘racing replica’ bikes, road-going models that channel the specification and style of their racing siblings. But none, and we do mean none, are like the Desmo RR.
In the words of MCN, the Desmo RR is nothing short of ‘a Moto GP bike with lights.’ The clue is in the name: the RR features Ducati’s wickedly clever ‘desmodromic’ valve system that allows its 200bhp 989cc V4 to rev to stratospheric levels. MCN goes on to say that ‘there has never been a road bike like it,’ praising the RR’s rigidity, speed and sheer focus.
You want one then. Of course you do. Just 1,500 were built and this is number 560. Despite covering a mere 9,081 miles from new in the hands of just three keepers - the current one since 2011 - it has been lavished with care, including a blueprinted full engine rebuild. Most of the ongoing work has been trusted to Desmo specialists JHP in Coventry. In recent years it has been used very sparingly yet serviced annually irrespective of mileage.
The photos show the bike as it is currently kitted out, fitted with a GP07 bellypan and bodywork and matching exhaust. The standard fittings are included together with some desirable spares such as a data logging system and Ducati stand.
The condition and provenance are impeccable and clear from the photographs. A long, advisory-free MOT to August 2025 adds to the appeal. The Desmo RR is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Ducati road bike of recent years. Don’t miss this very good example.

Trust Ducati to design a bike that perfectly balances form and function. Where other racers sport compromised aesthetics, not so the Desmo. Just look at it.
This bike has been fitted with a GP07 kit and Dymag carbon fibre wheels that naturally enhance those looks. The standard set up is also included, together with a raft of desirable spares. Both are in the sort of condition you would expect of an enthusiast-owned, exotic bike with very low mileage.
Whether you choose to buy this and set it up somewhere so that you can sit and admire it, or you plan to get out and enjoy it, this RR will reward your eyes and blood pressure in equal measure.

The Mechanics

  • 989cc V4 ‘Desmodromic’ 90 degree V4 shared with GP06 Moto GP bike
  • Engine develops 200bhp with very wide rev range
  • Fully rebuilt and blueprinted engine around 4,000 miles ago
  • 6spd manual gearbox
  • Ducati GP07 exhaust system fitted
  • Standard exhaust included with both silencer options
  • ECU to suit standard set up included
  • Annually serviced by seller including oil and filter irrespective of mileage
  • Maintained by Desmo specialist JHP in Coventry
  • Large quantity of desirable spares included as detailed above
  • The vendor informs us that the handling is superb, aided by faster turning from the carbon wheels
  • No reported running or riding issues
  • No mechanical or running gear advisories on current MOT
Beyond the stand-out aesthetics is where the RR lives up to its ‘racing replica’ name. This bike is, to all intents and purposes, exactly the same as the Moto GP bikes campaigned by Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau. The same 989cc 90 degree V4, with its clever desmodromic valve set up. The same chassis layout.
The vendor has improved this bike with the GP07 bodywork and super lightweight carbon fibre wheels, which improve turn in compared to the standard bike.
We are told that the engine was rebuilt prior to the vendor acquiring the bike in 2011 - so around 4,000 miles ago - and the current mileage is 9,081. It has been maintained by Desmo specialist JHP in Coventry, augmented by annual oil and filter changes carried out by the current keeper.
He has used the bike very sparingly in recent years, meaning it arrives with the buyer in very good mechanical order with no issues to be addressed. The advisory-free MOT confirms this.
The vendor describes the riding experience:
“Exhilarating, loud and exciting. The handling is superb, aided by the faster turning afforded by the carbon wheels. A visceral experience.”
