The Appeal

The Audi R8 changed its manufacturer's image in a big way. This well-rounded, capable and surprisingly practical supercar - with a big, thumping V8 engine, all-wheel drive, balanced handling, a comfortable cabin - was quite a package, and made plenty of waves when it was revealed at the 2006 Paris Motor Show.

Eking out a similar presence to the likes of the Ferrari or Lamborghini while maintaining that German trademark of practicality and quality, the R8 feels like a cross-continental car through and through - and quite a turn-up for a company that was previously known near-exclusively for its practical family saloons.
